Around 50 people hospitalised due to food poisoning in Mathura

Around 50 people, including women and children, were hospitalised here due to suspected food poisoning after consuming fritters made of buckwheat flour, officials said on Tuesday. The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday during Janmashtami festivities, they said. "We had fritters made of buckwheat flour last night. After that I started vomiting and felt a burning sensation in the stomach," Priyanka, a teenager admitted to the government hospital, told PTI Videos. Parkham Singh, a resident of Parkham village who had come with a patient, said after consuming the fritters people started complaining about dizziness, vomiting and shivering. "The kuttu ka atta (buckwheat flour) was purchased from a local shop in the village," he said. Around 50 people from my village have fallen ill, he added. Over 657,000 appear on day 2 of UP constable recruitment exam; 20 arrested

The UP Police recruitment exam was held on Saturday with more than 6.57 lakh candidates appearing for it at 1,174 centres across 67 districts of the state under the watch of 25,000 police personnel and 2,300 magistrates. The five-day exercise, which began on Friday, will conclude on August 31. On Saturday, police arrested 20 people for various crimes, including spreading rumours about paper leak, a statement said. Among those arrested was Anirudh Modanlal, who was nabbed by the Special Task Force (STF) for allegedly sharing fake question papers through Telegram app with the a few candidates against money. The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) also filed an FIR in Hussainganj, Lucknow, against individuals spreading false rumours about a paper leak. According to the UPRPB, the exam will be held in two shifts on five days -- August 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31. At least 40 children injured after school balcony collapses in UP

At least 40 children were injured after a portion of the first-floor balcony of their school here collapsed on Friday, police said. The children are being treated at the district hospital. The condition of five students is stated to be critical, Barabanki Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Kumar Singh said. Singh said the incident took place at the Awadh Academy School, a private institution, when a large number of children gathered on the first-floor balcony while going down to attend the morning assembly. The 40 injured children were rushed to the Jahangirabad Primary Health Centre, around 300 metres from the school, and after they were given first aid, they were referred to the district hospital, police said. Many of the students were pulled out from under the debris of the collapsed balcony, they said. At the hospital, the children are being treated for injuries to their face, neck, hands and legs.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday claimed that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh wanted to drag the issue of recruitment of assistant teachers. The Allahabad High Court had recently directed the Uttar Pradesh government to prepare a fresh selection list for the appointment of 69,000 assistant teachers in the state within three months in line with the Basic Education Rules and Reservation Guidelines. UP court orders arrest of AAP MP Sanjay Singh in 2001 road blockade case

A Sultanpur court on Tuesday took strong objection to Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh not appearing in a two-decade-old case and ordered police to arrest and produce him on August 28. On August 13, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Singh, SP leader Anoop Sanda, and four others, with the hearing scheduled for Tuesday. The accused however did not appear before the court. "The court has directed the police to arrest all the accused and produce them in the court by August 28," a court officer told PTI. Madan Singh, appearing for the six accused, said a bail petition for Singh and Sanda has been filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, with a hearing set for August 22. 11 killed, 26 injured after van collides with bus in UP's Bulandshahr

Eleven people were killed and 26 injured when a pickup van collided with a private bus in the Salempur area of this Uttar Pradesh district on Sunday, officials said. The accident occurred on the Budaun-Meerut state highway, around 14 kilometres from the district headquarters. Traffic on the road was briefly affected due to the accident. Locals said the pickup van was coming from Ghaziabad when it collided head-on with the bus. "Ten people were killed and 27 injured. The injured have been sent to different hospitals," District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh told reporters. Later, one more injured person succumbed. The dead were identified as Mukut Singh (45), Deen Nath (45), Brijesh (18), Babu Singh (19), Shishupal (27), Girraj Singh (26), Sugarpal (35), Omkar (30), Mahesh (40), Jay P (18) and Surendra (45).
