Court should take note of assault on shanty-dwellers in Ghaziabad: Akhilesh

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has urged the court to take cognisance of the assault on a group of people in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad by members of a Hindu right-wing outfit, and asked if this was a new way to "vacate" land. Members of the outfit assaulted the group of people living near a railway station in Ghaziabad and destroyed their shanties, claiming they were Bangladeshi infiltrators. Bhupendra Chowdhary, the president of the Hindu Raksha Dal, and Badal alias Hariom Singh were arrested in connection with the case late Saturday. UP plans to have 30K 'surya mitras' to install solar panels in all houses

The Uttar Pradesh government plans to train 30,000 youngsters as "surya mitras" to achieve its goal of having solar panels on the rooftop every house in the state. Nearly 80 students in UP's Deoria school fall ill due to food poisoning

In a case of food poisoning, around 80 students from the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Ashram Method Inter College in Mehroona village of this district fell ill with symptoms of stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, officials said on Monday. The incident took place after the children had a dinner Sunday night, they said. District Magistrate Divya Mittal told reporters that the students are in stable condition while an investigation into the incident is underway. According to an official statement released Monday evening, some students at the government-run school were reported to have fallen ill due to food poisoning. Two students, Akash and Nitesh, are receiving treatment at Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College. UP CM Yogi Adityanath to begin his two-day Ayodhya visit on Tuesday

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will begin his two-day visit to Ayodhya on Tuesday, according to an official statement. Adityanath is scheduled to visit Hanumangarhi and Shri Ram Lalla temples on Tuesday morning. He will later convene a meeting with officials and public representatives to review development projects and law enforcement in Ayodhya, the release issued on Monday said. The chief minister will also meet BJP office bearers at the Circuit House here and conduct a field inspection of the ongoing development works, it added. NHRC notice to Delhi, Haryana, UP over deaths by drowning, electrocution

The NHRC on Saturday said it has issued notices to the Delhi government, vice chairman of the DDA and Haryana and Uttar Pradesh authorities in connection with reported incidents of drowning and electrocution in Delhi and neighbouring cities in which several lives have been lost. The reported incidents, as in the recent past, are indicative of the "negligence by the civic authorities, which is a matter of concern", it said in a statement. The NHRC has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that at least 13 lives were lost in Delhi-NCR including six due to electrocution and four due to drowning after falling into overflowing drains amid heavy rain "magnifying the creaky infrastructure and civic negligence", the rights panel said.
