Taking serious note of vacancies in the Central Information Commission (CIC) and state information commissions (SICs), the Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre and the state governments to take steps to fill the posts, saying otherwise the 2005 law on right to information will become a dead letter. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday sought detailed reports on the vacancies in all state departments and directed that steps be taken to speed up the recruitment process a various levels. 36,521 hired in CAPFs in 9 mths, process on to fill 79,960 vacancies: Govt

As many as 36,521 personnel have been recruited in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) like the BSF and the CRPF in last nine months, while the recruitment process for 79,960 vacancies is currently underway, Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. He said the central government has launched a drive for recruitment in the CAPFs and Assam Rifles under the Mission Recruitment and so far 36,521 personnel have been recruited in the past nine months. SC seeks response of govt on PIL alleging vacancies in industrial tribunals

The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought response of the Centre on a PIL seeking directions for filling up vacancies in the Central Government Industrial Tribunal-cum-Labour Courts (CGIT-cum-LCs). A bench comprising Chief justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and Manoj Misra took note of the plea of Labour Law Association (LLA) that out of 22 tribunals, nine do not have presiding officers and vacancies are likely to arise in 2023 in three more tribunals. The Railway Board on Monday directed its zones to launch a "special drive" to fill promotional vacancies especially in the safety category, a move that comes amidst criticism over vacant posts in the transportation behemoth following the Balasore three-train accident in which 288 people lost their lives. Vacant govt posts in tribal areas to be filled on priority: HP minister

Himachal Pradesh Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan on Monday said vacant government posts in tribal areas, especially in the education department, would be filled on priority to ensure that education is not hampered for the want of teachers. Presiding over a meeting of the cabinet subcommittee on employment opportunities here, he said that around 70,000 posts of different categories are lying vacant in various departments. Of these, 16,000 posts are vacant in the education department and the government is looking forward to filling up these posts at the earliest, he said. The state has two tribal districts -- Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti. There are also tribal areas in Chamba and Sirmaur districts. Vacancy levels of office spaces remained stable at 16.4 per cent during January-March across six major cities compared to the previous quarter with new supply being in line with current demand, according to Colliers. While Delhi-NCR, Pune and Hyderabad saw an increase in vacancy levels, Chennai witnessed a sharp decline. 13,525 vacancies in Delhi Police, 14% of total strength, says Parl Panel

As many as 13,525 posts are lying vacant in the Delhi Police which is around 14 per cent of the sanctioned strength of 94,254, a Parliamentary panel has noted. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, headed by BJP MP Brijlal, noted that the recruitment process to fill the 3,861 posts is going on and recommended that the hiring process should be completed within a fixed timeframe. "The committee notes that there are 13,525 vacancies in the Delhi Police which is around 14 per cent of the sanctioned strength of 94,254," the report of the committee, which was submitted in Parliament on Friday, said. The panel recommended that the remaining 9,664 vacancies may also be filled as planned by the Delhi Police. This will increase the strength of the Delhi Police and further enhance their capability for maintenance of law and order in the National Capital Region, it noted. The committee also recommended that two different mechanisms should be devised for improving coordination .

Govt yet to receive suggestions by HC collegiums for 216 vacancies: Rijiju

Against 334 vacancies in various high courts, 118 recommendations made by HC collegiums are at various stages of processing, while the government is yet to receive recommendations for 216 vacancies of judges, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday. In a written reply, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said as on March 10, there was no vacancy in the Supreme Court. In the 25 HCs, against the sanctioned strength of 1,114 judges, 780 judges were working -- a shortfall of 334. "Presently, there are a total of 118 proposals recommended by High Court Collegiums which are at various stages of processing. The recommendations against 216 vacancies in the high courts are yet to be received from the High Court Collegiums," he said. SC seeks Centre's response on plea raising issue of vacancies in CVC

The Supreme Court on Monday sought a response from the Centre on a plea that raised the issue of vacancies in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). A bench of Justices S K Kaul and A S Oka issued notice to the Centre seeking a response within three weeks on the plea filed by NGO 'Common Cause'. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the NGO, said CVC has been held to be the most important integrity institution in the country. "What is the position? How many people are manning this?" the bench asked. Bhushan said two posts are laying vacant -- one for 25 months and the other for 15 months. The plea has said that the authority has failed to fill in the vacancies in the CVC in time.
