Vande Bharat average speed down from 84 to 76 kmph in 3 years: RTI response

The average speed of Vande Bharat trains has decreased from 84.48 kmph in 2020-21 to 76.25 kmph in 2023-24, the railway ministry said in a response to an RTI query. Railway officials said not only Vande Bharats but many other trains are also maintaining cautionary speed at places were "huge infrastructural work" is underway. "Besides this, some Vande Bharat trains have been launched in difficult terrain areas where there are speed restrictions due to geographical reasons or extreme weather conditions," a railway official said. Over 270 railway projects were unveiled in Odisha on Tuesday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officials said. Among these are new railway lines, signalling systems, good sheds and a new Vande Bharat Express that will operate between Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar, they said. These were unveiled by the PM virtually from Ahmedabad along with other railway projects across the country. The new Vande Bharat Express train will operate six days a week, except Saturdays. RCF to roll out first prototype of Vande Metro coach by April: S Srinivas

The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala in Punjab is aiming to roll out the first prototype of Vande Metro coach for intercity travel ?by April this year, its general manager S Srinivas has said. A total of 16 such coaches are expected to be ready by the later part of 2024-25 financial year, he said. Vande Metro, which is designed on the concept of India's first indigenous semi-high-speed train Vande Bharat, will cater to intercity passengers covering up to a distance of 250 km. A Vande Metro train will have 16 air-conditioned coaches and can run at a maximum speed of 130 km per hour. "This train is meant for intercity traffic," Srinivas told PTI, adding, "We are aiming that the first prototype is ready by April." Following trials, the RCF will start its production.
