The Federation of MSME Vendors and Defence and Aerospace today alleged that ordnance factories supplying vital defence equipment, including guns, to the armed forces had cancelled orders worth thousands of crores placed with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The move, the federation alleged, would lead to huge losses and large-scale entrenchment of workers. Addressing a press conference here, Neeraj Raizada, the federation's president, also claimed that the government had slashed the budget of the MSMEs from Rs 16,000 crore in 2017-18 to Rs 10,000 crore in 2018-19. The Army today foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing three militants. Troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Macchil sector in Kupwara district and challenged the infiltrators, an Army official said. Three militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight, he said, adding search operations were on in the area.
A commander and a jawan of the Assam Rifles were injured when a suspected Naga armed group attacked their base camp near Mon town early today, Assam Rifles sources said. The armed group attacked the base camp of the paramilitary force at Lampong Shanghah village, about 15 km away from Mon district, at around 2 am and the security force retaliated. While the jawan manning the sentry post was grievously injured, the commander in the rank of a Major sustained minor bullet injury, they said. The jawan was airlifted to Jorhat army camp in Assam for treatment, while the condition of the officer is stable. There is no report of any casualty on the other side, they said.

Four Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, who left the Mandapam camp with a plan to leave for the island nation, were arrested from a lodge here today, police said.
