On Republic Day today, two Saudi nationals and an Indian, carrying a satellite phone, were detained in Pokhran town of Rajasthan for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to disturb peace and harmony, police said. The two suspects from Saudi Arabia were identified as Al Talal Mohammad and Al Samri Mohammad, both in their 40s, they said. The other suspect is Syed Mohsin (41), a resident of Telangana. They were staying a hotel in Pokhran in Jaisalmer district and were detained after a tip-off this morning, Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Gaurav Yadav said . He said that a satellite phone was recovered from them and they will be interrogated by a joint interrogation team of military intelligence and Jaisalmer police. Possession of satellite phone without authorisation is not allowed in the country. Security forces arrested two militants including one woman in Manipur, the police said today. A woman cadre of the proscribed militant outfit People Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PRO) group was arrested from Wangkhei Andro Parking in Imphal East district on Tuesday, a press release issued by Manipur Police said. Another militant of the banned underground outfit United National Liberation Front (UNLF) was arrested by a combined team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles from Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai area in Thoubal district on Wednesday, the release added.

Thousands of Pakistanis are rallying in the port city of Karachi to demand the arrest of a police commander charged with killing a 27-year-old aspiring model. Rao Anwar went into hiding after he and other officers killed Naqeeb Ullah earlier this month and then tried to cover it up, saying that Ullah was a Taliban militant killed in a shootout. An investigation later found that Ullah had no ties to the militants. The motive for the Jan 13 killing remains unclear. Today, some 3,000 protesters from Ullah's tribe vowed to continue their sit-in until Anwar is arrested. Anwar has been relieved of duty and barred from leaving Pakistan. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Thursday detained one Sri Lankan national from Tamil Nadu's Dhanuskodi district for crossing the border.The Sri Lankan national has been identified as Nataraja Siyamalan, 35, a resident of Talaimannar in Sri Lanka.Siyamalan's custody comes days after 16 Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for allegedly fishing in their waters near Katchatheevu Island.The apprehended fishermen have been lodged in Jaffna prison in Sri Lanka.The fishermen are natives of Tamil Nadu's Rameswaram and Mandapam districts.
Twenty-four people including mothers and babies were killed today when their vehicle ran over a landmine in central Mali, local residents said. The deaths brought the number of fatalities linked to Mali's jihadist insurgency to 33 in 24 hours, most of them civilians. The victims had been travelling from neighbouring Burkina Faso for a weekly market in Boni, local officials said. The blast occurred nine kilometres (five miles) from the town. "The final toll is 24, including four babies with their mothers. There are no survivors," said Boni resident Abdoulaye Cheick, who described himself as a relative of one of the dead. Local officials had earlier given a provisional toll of 13 dead, made up of civilians from Mali and Burkina Faso. Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) CoBRA commandos of 209 battalions will be awarded the Shaurya Chakra for an anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand's Latehar district in which six Maoists were killed.The operation took place on November 23, 2016. Miscreants looted over Rs 30 lakh from an automated teller machine (ATM) of a nationalized bank in Sarasdangaal area under the naxal-affected Shikaripara police station of Dumka district, police today said. The miscreants allegedly cut open the chest of the State Bank of Indias ATM and decamped with Rs 30.20 lakh, officer-in-charge of Shikaripara police station, Manoj Kumar Thakur said. As soon as the police was informed of the incident today, it swung into action and conducted raids, he said. He said the ATM is situated close to the Sarasdangaal branch of SBI.
Thirteen civilians travelling from Burkina Faso were killed today when their vehicle ran over a landmine in central Mali, local officials and a security source said, giving a provisional toll. "Thirteen Malian and Burkinabe civilians were killed near the town of Boni when their vehicle struck a mine," local official Mahmoud Traore told AFP, as a Malian security source blamed "terrorists" for the blast. "Terrorists uses these mines to spread fear," the source said, adding that the victims of Thursday's blast were killed instantly. Those wounded are in a "critical" condition, according to the source. Another unnamed local official said that the vehicle was carrying seven traders from Burkina Faso as well as Malians travelling to a weekly market.
