Parts of Telangana in grip of cold wave, Adilabad shivers at

Cold wave conditions prevailed in some parts of Telangana, throwing normal life out of gear, officials said here Thursday. The lowest minimum temperature of seven degrees Celsius was recorded at Adilabad, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its report for the state. "Cold wave conditions prevailed at isolated places in Adilabad, Medak and Peddapally districts of Telangana," it said. Medak recorded a minimum temperature of 8 degrees, followed by Ramagundam (9), Hanmakonda (11) and Hyderabad (11), the report, citing observations recorded at 0830 hours Thursday, said. Several places in Telangana have been experiencing extreme cold conditions for about a month now.

Una colder than Shimla in HP

The plains of Una district remained colder than middle hills of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, the Meteorological Department said. The minimum temperature in the state capital was recorded at 3.7 degrees Celsius while it settled at 2.5 degrees Celsius in Una, the department said. Most parts of Himachal Pradesh recorded a slight increase in minimum temperature on Thursday, he said, adding Manali was shivering at the freezing point. Minimum temperatures in Manali and Seogabh of Kullu district was recorded at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius and minus 0.2 degrees Celsius respectively, Singh said. The tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong continued to be the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 10.2 degrees Celsius, he said. Delhi: As cold wave intensifies, homeless flock to night shelters

Inadequate nutrition and exposure to cold wave have forced the homeless in the national capital to turn towards night shelters. Forecast for fresh spell of rain, snow in Kashmir

The Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh spell of rain or snow from Thursday evening in Kashmir, even as the valley and Ladakh region continued to reel under intense cold conditions. A MeT Department official said a fresh western disturbance (WD) is approaching Jammu and Kashmir under the influence of which intermittent rain and snow is likely to occur from Thursday evening till Sunday. He said the maximum impact of this weather system would be on Saturday when there is possibility of rain and snow at widespread places. Delhi's temperature settles one notch below season's average, eight trains running late

The minimum temperature in Delhi settled at six degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, on Thursday with eight trains running late, officials said. Humidity was recorded at 97 per cent, the Met department said. According to the railways, the Mahabodi Express between Gaya and New Delhi was running late by three hour, the Poorva Express between Howrah and New Delhi was delayed by close to an hour and the Sangam Express between Allahabd and Meerut was running late by three-and-a-half hour. The maximum temperature on Friday is likely to hover around 21 degrees Celsius along with moderate fog in the morning. According to the Met department, there is a possibility of light rains over the weekend. IMD issues warning of heavy snowfall, rain in HP

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy snowfall and rain in the high and the mid hills of Himachal Pradesh, an official said Wednesday. A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest India from January 10, MeT Centre, Shimla, Director Manmohan Singh said. Snowfall and light to moderate rains are likely to occur at most places in the state from January 10 to 12, he said. Meanwhile, Manali in Kullu district continued to reel under severe cold wave conditions, with a minimum temperature of minus 4 degrees Celsius, he added. Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong continued to be the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 11 degrees Celsius, he said adding that the minimum temperature in Kinnaur's Kalpa was minus 7 degrees Celsius. It was cloudy and sunny in patches in the national capital Wednesday, with the minimum temperature being recorded at 8 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average. The maximum temperature settled at 20.5 degrees, also a notch above the normal, a Meteorological department (Met) official said. A senior Railways officer said nine trains were delayed by an average of three hours due to fog in the morning. The Purshottam Express, Brahmputra Mail, Poorva Express, Sampark Kranti and the Mahbodhi Express were among those delayed as a cover of moderate fog enveloped the city. At 5.30 am, visibility reduced to 200 metres at Palam and 400 metres at Safdarjung, the official said. However, it improved to 600 and 800 metres, respectively, at 8.30 am. Cold weather conditions continue in Punjab, Haryana; Adampur coldest at 1.8 degC

Cold weather conditions prevailed in most parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday, with Adampur being the coldest place in the two states at 1.8 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Bathinda,Halwara and Amritsar recorded minimum temperatures of 3.9 degrees Celsius each, meteorological (Met) department officials said. Temperatures in Pathankot and Gurdaspur settled at 4 degrees Celsius and 4.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. Faridkot recorded 4.6 degrees Celsius, Patiala 7 degrees Celsius and Ludhiana 7.3 degrees Celsius, they said. The common capital of Haryana and Punjab, Chandigarh recorded a low of 7.2 degrees Celsius. In Haryana, Narnaul was the coldest place recording a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. Karnal recorded 5.6 degrees Celsius, Hisar 6.8 degrees Celsius and Sirsa 6.3 degrees Celsius and Ambala 7.4 degrees Celsius. Cold conditions continued in Delhi Tuesday with dense fog in the early hours delaying as many as 14 trains, officials said.
