An unabated cold wave continued on Wednesday in the Kashmir Valley, dropping minimum temperatures below the freezing point, the Met office said.

Cold conditions continued in Delhi Tuesday with dense fog in the early hours delaying as many as 14 trains, officials said. The minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded at seven degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature was at 19.7 degrees Celsius, both of which were normal for this time of the year. A railway official said 14 trains have been delayed by an average of two hours due to fog. Ranchi-Delhi and Jaynagar-Anand Vihar Garib Rath, Farakka Express, Poorva Express, Sealdah-Rajdhani were among those delayed. A cover of moderate fog enveloped the city with visibility reduced to 200 metres at Palam and 400 metres at Safdarjung, at 5.30am. The humidity level oscillated between 100 and 63 per cent. Cold wave conditions continued to prevail in various parts of the state, with Mount Abu recording a minimum temperature of 1 degrees Celsius, an official at the MeT Department said Tuesday. Bhilwara recorded a low of 2.6 degrees Celsius followed by 3 degrees Celsius in Sikar, 3.4 degrees Celsius in Dabok, 4.1 degrees Celsius in Churu, 4.5 degrees Celsius each in Banasthali and Chittorgarh, he said. Pilani recorded a minimum temperature of 4.6 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees Celsius in Eranpura road, 6.4 degrees Celsius in Bikaner, 6.8 degrees Celsius in Alwar, 7 Degrees celsius in Kota, 7.5 degrees Celsius each in Swai Madhopur and Jaipur, 7.8 degrees Celsius in Sri Ganganagar, 8 degrees Celsius in Ajmer, 8.3 degrees Celsius in Jaisalmer, 9 degrees Celsius in Jodhpur and 9.5 degrees Celsius each in Barmer and Phalodi. Manali, Kufri shiver at sub-zero temperature in Himachal
Tourist destinations of Manali and Kurfi in Himachal Pradesh are shivering at sub-zero temperatures, the Meteorological (MeT) Department said Tuesday. The minimum temperature in Manali was minus 3.4 degrees Celsius and minus 0.8 degrees Celsius in Kufri, said Manmohan Singh, Meteorological Centre, Shimla. However Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti continued to be the coldest place in the state, with minimum temperature at minus 10.8 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Kalpa was minus 6.8 degrees Celsius during the period, he added. The MeT department Tuesday forecast more snowfall and rain in several parts of the state from January 10-12. Fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest India from January 10, it said. Under its influence, light to moderate snowfall and rains are very likely to occur at few places in the state on January 10 and most places by January 11 and 12, Singh said.
Night temperatures increase in Kashmir
Cold-wave conditions in Kashmir eased after the minimum temperature rose even as some places in the Valley witnessed light snowfall in early hours of Tuesday. The minimum temperature in Srinagar rose by two degrees to minus 2.0 degrees Celsius on Monday night against the previous night's minus 4.0 degrees Celsius, meteorological department officials said. Qazigund recorded a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, a jump of nearly two degrees from minus 5.3 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag registered minus 3.2 degrees Celsius and Kupwara town settled at minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, the officials said. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 4.9 degrees Celsius, a leap of nearly eight degrees from minus 12.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in the ski resort of Gulmarg increased by eight degrees to minus 3.1 degrees from minus 11.0 degrees, the officials said. Cold conditions continued to prevail in many places of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday. Fog reduced visibility in the morning in places like Ludhiana, Adampur, Halwara, Bathinda, Hisar and Karnal. Adampur near Jalandhar was the coldest place in the two states with a minimum temperature of 5.3 degrees Celsius, meteorological department officials said. In Punjab, Gurdaspur recorded a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius, Bathinda settled at normal minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees, Amritsar 7 degrees, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded 9.1 degrees and 7.9 degrees Celsius respectively, officials said. Chandigarh recorded a low of 6.7 degrees Celsius. In Haryana, Narnaul and Karnal recorded 6 degrees Celsius each, Hisar settled 7.6 degrees, Bhiwani and Sirsa recorded 7.7 degrees Celsius each.

Cold wave: Agra schools closed till Jan 9
The district administration has ordered closure of all schools here till January 9 in view of the cold wave, authorities said Monday. Agra District Magistrate N G Ravi Kumar instructed the managements to keep schools closed till Wednesday. Icy cold winds continued to force people indoors in the district. The night temperature here was 9.9 degrees celsius Saturday and the day temperature hovered around 20 degrees celsius. Markets remained largely deserted in the evenings. The closure of schools is likely to help prevent traffic jams in the city on Wednesday when Prime minister Narendra Modi will be addressing an election rally at the Kothi Meena Bazar ground here.
Light rains at isolated places in UP
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers occurred at a few places in eastern districts and at isolated places in western parts of Uttar Pradesh. The MeT Department here said shallow to moderate fog occurred at isolated places in western UP. Night temperatures rose markedly in Gorakhpur division, rose appreciably in Varanasi and Faizabad division, and fell appreciably in Meerut division. Muzaffarnagar was recorded as the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of 4.6 degrees Celsius. The weather is likely to remain dry, the MeT Department said, adding that shallow to moderate fog is very likely at isolated places in the state in the next 24 hours.

After temporary respite from the cold conditions, the piercing chill was back at most places in Punjab and Haryana on Monday, with Pathankot recording the lowest temperature in the two states at 2.3 degree Celsius. The meteorological department (MeT) officials said while Adampur reeled at 2.6 degree Celsius, Amritsar and Halwara recorded minimum temperatures of 3 degree Celsius and 3.1 degrees Celsius respectively. Ludhiana braved the chill at 5.5 degree Celsius, Patiala at 5.6 degree Celsius, Bathinda at 4.8 degree Celsius and Faridkot at 4 degree Celsius, the MeT officials said. Temp drops in Rajasthan due to snowfall in J&K, HP
The temperature at most places in the state has dropped by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius because of the snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, a MeT official said Monday. The cold wave conditions will prevail over Rajasthan with 2 to 3 degrees Celsius drop in the minimum temperature in the coming days, MeT regional centre director Shiv Ganesh said. On Sunday, dense fog was witnessed in Sri Ganganagar, Pilani and Sikar. The visibility reduced to 50 metres in Pilani and Sikar, thus affecting traffic movement, he said. The minimum temperature was recorded lowest at 1.6 degree Celsius in Fatehpur Shekhawati, followed by 3 degrees Celsius in state's only hill station Mount Abu. A day after the first snowfall of the year, Shimla woke up to a sunny morning on Monday. The weather would mostly remain dry in Himachal Pradesh on Monday, the Meteorological Department said. However, there might be snowfall and rain at isolated places of the state on January 8-9 due to western disturbances, Met Centre, Shimla Director Manmohan Singh said.
