Vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the only all-weather road linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, was partially restored on Sunday, a day after it was disrupted due to heavy snowfall, a traffic department official said. One-way traffic from Jammu towards Srinagar was allowed in view of the improvement in the weather and after clearing the snow on the road, he said. The flight operations at Srinagar airport were also restored on Sunday, after two days of being affected due to snowfall, officials said. On Saturday, the plains in the Valley witnessed one of the heaviest snowfalls in the recent years, leading to disruption of surface as well as air traffic. The snowfall, which lasted from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning, threw life out of gear across Kashmir. Delhi received light showers in the early hours of Sunday. The Safdarjung observatory, the recording for which is considered official for the city, recorded 4.3 mm rainfall, while Palam recorded 1.4 mm. Lodhi Road, Ayanagar and Ridge areas recorded 4 mm, 3 mm and 3.4 mm rainfall respectively. According to meteorological department official, the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average. Even as snow continued to elude Himachal Pradesh's capital Shimla on Sunday, the picturesque tourist resort of Manali experienced snow on the second day too. There are chances of more rain and snow in the state till Wednesday, weather officials said.

Higher reaches of Uttarakhand hills received fresh snowfall on Saturday while overcast conditions prevailed at most places in the plains. The Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath in Rudraprayag and Badrinath in Chamoli district, besides the skiing slopes of Auli, received fresh spells of snow in the morning and afternoon, the meteorological department said. Light rains and hailstorm are likely to occur in western parts of Rajasthan in the next 24 hours due to upper cyclonic circulation, a MeT Department official said Friday. Eight districts -- Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Churu, Hanumangarh and Sriganganagar -- may receive rains followed by gusty winds whereas hailstorm is likely to occur in Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts, he said.
