Phulbani became the coldest place in the state recording 4.5 degree Celsius, while the mercury stood at 5 degree Celsius in the tourist destination of Daringibadi, also in Kandhamal district, it said. As the entire state reeled under biting cold, the mercury slipped below 8 degrees Celsius in at least 8 places and below 10 degrees Celsius in at least 19 locations in the state, it said. The mercury stood at 6.6 degrees Celsius in Sonepur, while it was 7.5 degree in Bhawanipatna, 7.6 degree in Angul, 8 degrees in Titlagarh, Sundargarh and Keonjhar, 8.2 degree in Koraput, 8.4 degree in Sambalpur, 9.3 degree in Talcher and Balasore, 9.4 degree in Baripada, 9.5 .

Severe cold wave conditions prevailed in isolated places in the districts of Peddapalle, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its daily weather report of Telangana. Following the IMD's 'orange warning' of heavy snowfall and rain in Himachal Pradesh from January 4 to 6, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) Wednesday said it is fully ready to deal with any eventuality. Talking to PTI, Special Secretary, Disaster Management, D C Rana said the state and district control rooms have been put on a state of readiness to deal with any eventuality in view of the weather advisory. Tourists and general public have been advised to avoid the higher reaches in the coming days to avoid any untoward incident, he added. Minimum temperatures across Punjab and Haryana registered a slight increase on Wednesday, bringing some relief to people from cold wave conditions. For nearly three weeks, the minimum temperatures had been hovering below the normal limits and settling between 1 and 6 degrees Celsius, with Adampur registering sub-zero temperatures on two occasions. Kashmir received its first snowfall of the New Year on Wednesday, breaking a month-long dry spell in the Valley, the meteorological department said. The 300-kilometre-long Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the Mughal Road, which connects Jammu's Poonch and Rajouri districts with south Kashmir's Shopian, have been closed for vehicular traffic after the fresh snowfall, officials said. "There was snowfall at most places in Kashmir, particularly in Gulmarg and Pahalgam tourist resorts, traces of snowfall was also witnessed in Srinagar early in the morning" an official said. Delhi recorded an average minimum temperature of 6.7 degrees Celsius in December 2018, the third lowest in the last 50 years, the India Meteorological Department said Tuesday. According to the IMD, the fog coverage data at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Palam showed it was the clearest month in the last 22 years in terms of visibility. "During the month of December 2018, Delhi recorded the average minimum temperature of 6.7 degrees Celsius, which was the third lowest during the last 50 years after 2005 and 1996, when the monthly minimum temperature was 6 degrees and 5.9 degrees respectively," the IMD said. The daily minimum temperature was below normal on 26 days. The monthly mean temperature was below normal by 1.6 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain and snowfall in most parts of Himachal Pradesh on Friday and Saturday. Heavy rain and snowfall are likely to occur in most places of high, middle, low hills and plains on Friday and Saturday due to western disturbances, said Manmohan Singh, director, Meteorological Centre, Shimla. Issuing an 'orange warning' of heavy rain and snowfall in most parts of the state on Friday and Saturday, the Met director asked the authorities concerned to be prepared as heavy rain and snowfall may lead to blockage of roads and landslides, especially in regions of high and mid hills. The Kangra administration has asked its officials to take all possible precautionary measures following the advisory, a district official said.
