Dry weather in UP, day temperatures fall in Allahabad division

Uttar Pradesh experienced dry weather with temperatures falling appreciably in Allahabad division, the meteorological department said on Thursday. Day temperatures fell appreciably in Allahabad division on Wednesday, with Agra recording the highest maximum temperature in the state at 36.6 degrees Celsius. The weatherman has predicted rain and thundershowers at isolated places in eastern Uttar Pradesh, and dry weather in western parts of the state tomorrow.

Cyclone Titli: no effect in WB on landfall, may trigger rain

The very severe cyclonic storm 'Titli' did not have much effect in West Bengal following its landfall Thursday, but the southern districts of the state are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain as it is may turn towards Gangetic West Bengal, officials said. The storm is likely to move northwestwards till Thursday evening and then recurve northeastwards towards Gangetic West Bengal, weakening gradually into a deep depression by Friday morning, the weatherman said. The cyclone has made landfall early Thursday with surface wind reaching speed of 126 kmph at Gopalpur of Ganjam district in neighbouring Odisha. Since there was no significant damage to railway tracks and overhead wires and other logistics, South Eastern Railway said it will run its services to different destinations in south India along the normal route. Partly cloudy morning in Delhi; light rain predicted

Delhiites woke up Thursday to a partly cloudy morning, with the minimum temperature settling at 24.5 degree Celsius, four notches above the season's average. The weatherman has predicted light rain in some parts of the city later in the day. According to the Meteorological (MeT) Department, the humidity level recorded at 8.30 am was 74 per cent. "The skies will remain partly cloudy throughout the day. There is possibility of light rain later in the day," an official of the department said. The official said the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 34 degree Celsius. Yesterday, the minimum temperature recorded was 23 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature settled at 34.6 degree Celsius.

Mainly clear skies in Delhi, MeT Dept predicts light rains for Thursday

Mainly clear skies prevailed in the national capital with the maximum temperature settling at 34.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The minimum temperature settled at 23 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, said a MeT Department official. The humidity oscillated between 93 and 50 per cent. The weather office has forecast cloudy skies with the possibility of light rains and thundershowers for Thursday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 32 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively," the weatherman said. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature settled at 35.5 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was pegged at 20.1 degrees Celsius.

Excess rainfall in Pb, slight deficit in Hry this monsoon: MeT dept

Punjab and Haryana, known as the grain bowl states of India, received close to normal monsoon rains this year, a meteorological department official said here on Wednesday. The south-west monsoon, which has withdrawn from the two states, including Chandigarh, on October 1, had turned quite active in the final phase and both the states received heavy rainfall between September 22 and 24, the official said. In the last three year, both Punjab and Haryana had witnessed monsoon rain deficit in the range of25-30 per cent. But this year, overall the two states received good rains, though some districts faced deficit. During the June 1-September 30 period, seven per cent excess rainfall lashed Punjab, which received 527.4 mm rains as against normal of 491.5 mm, the weather department official told PTI. Onset of NE monsoon will be delayed:Regional met office

Favourable conditions for onset of the North East monsoon in Tamil Nadu have receded with the movement of a cyclonic storm to the Oman coast and a depression in the Bay of Bengal heading towards Odisha, the weather office here said Monday. Speaking to reporters, Chennai Deputy Director General of Meteorology, S Balachandran said the state is also likely to receive lesser rains in the coming days. He said this was due to the northward movement of cyclone Luban in the Arabian sea to the Oman coast and a depression in the Bay of Bengal that is likely to develop into a cyclone while moving towards Odisha. Rain, squally weather may hit spirit ahead of Durga Puja

South and coastal Bengal is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain along with squally weather in the next five days affecting the spirit ahead of the Durga Puja, the biggest festival of West Bengal, the IMD said in its forecast on Monday. Preparations are on at full swing for the four-day Durga Puja festival which will start from October 16. Under the influence of a depression over the eastcentral Bay of Bengal, squally weather along with rough to very rough seas is likely to prevail along and off West Bengal and Odisha coast, the IMD forecast said. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur particularly from Wednesday to Friday in districts such as North and South 24-Parganas, Howrah, Burdwan, East and West Midnapore, Nadia and Murshidabad. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea from Tuesday (October 9) to Friday (October 12). Those who are in deep seas are also advised to return to coast by tonight, the IMD said.

Low pressure in Bay of Bengal likely to intensify into depression: Met dept

A well-marked low pressure has formed in the Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a depression in the next 36 hours, the Regional Meteorological Department said on Sunday. The weather office has cautioned fishermen against venturing out to the South and Central areas of Bay of Bengal till October 9. "A new low pressure has formed North of the Andaman (and Nicobar Islands) and South east of the Bay of Bengal. This is expected to further intensify into a depression and move towards the Odisha coast in the next 72 hours," RMD Deputy Director General S Balachandran told reporters. Under the influence of the low pressure, most places in Tamil Nadu registered moderate rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Sunday, while Mimisal, a coastal village in Pudukottai district, received 13 cms of rainfall. Monsoon withdraws from Odisha: IMD

The southwest monsoon has completely withdrawn from Odisha on Friday even as the state is likely to receive rainfall due to likely formation of a low pressure over south Bay of Bengal, IMD said. Southwest monsoon that entered the state on June 8 this year has withdrawn. "Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from entire Odisha, Today, 5th October, 2018," a special bulletin issued by the India Meteorology Department (IMD) said. Meanwhile, the IMD also said that a low pressure area is likely to occur over south Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around October 8. "It is likely to become more marked and move towards Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coast during the subsequent 72 hours," it said. Rains continue to lash TN, Pondy

Rains continued to lash parts of Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry for a second day Friday, prompting officials to declare holiday for educational institutions in Tamil Nadu. Puducherry, in particular, received heavy rains and an official said the union territory recorded 9.5 cm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8.30 AM. Following sharp spells of rains in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu, educational institutions were closed. Schools remained closed in Chennai, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin. A holiday was declared for both schools and colleges in the rest of the districts.
