Sultry day prevailed in Delhi

A sultry day prevailed in the national capital on Tuesday with the maximum temperature settling at 35.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 22.5 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, said a MeT Department official. The humidity oscillated between 93 and 42 per cent. The weather office has forecast clear skies along with mist in the morning for Wednesday. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 35 and 23 degrees Celsius respectively," the MeT office said. On Sunday, the maximum and minimum temperatures had settled at 35.2 and 22.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

Kangra received highest rainfall in Himachal this season

Kangra received the highest rainfall in Himachal Pradesh this monsoon season, the Meteorological Centre here said Monday. The Southwest Monsoon withdrew from Himachal Pradesh and remaining parts of Rajasthan, entire Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, some parts of East Uttar Pradesh, West and East Madhya Pradesh and some more parts of Gujarat state and north Arabian Sea on Sunday, Met centre Director Manmohan Singh said. Two spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 13 to 14 and September 21 to 24 accompanied by snowfall in tribal Lahaul and Spiti district wreaked havoc in various parts of the state and threw normal life out of gear. Himachal Pradesh suffered a loss of Rs. 1479.29 crores this monsoon, a state official said. The state bore a loss Rs. 220.29 crores during heavy rains from September 21 to 24, whereas the rest of Rs. 1259 crores loss was incurred during August 13 and 14 rains as several roads, power and water ..

Himachal Pradesh: 16 trekkers missing in Chamba rescued

A group of 16 trekkers, who went missing after they lost contact due to inclement weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on Saturday, have been rescued.According to police, the group comprised of mostly foreign tourists, including 9 British and 1 Irish national. There were three Indians and three porters in the group as well. The trekkers, according to police reports, have safely reached Sechu area in Pangi.Earlier, a team of policemen, mountaineering experts, and local experts conducted a thorough search operation to locate the group, before they were eventually rescued.The state of Himachal Pradesh, of late, has been witnessing heavy rainfall and snow throughout the week. Recently, a group of students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkie were rescued after getting stranded in the state's Lahaul-Spiti region.The Chief Minister's office, in its latest report, said that the state suffered losses of Rs. 1479 during the current monsoon season.

Monsoon ends with 'below normal' rainfall; highest deficiency in Bihar, J'khand, WB: IMD

The monsoon season ended Sunday with a "below normal" showing this year as the country recorded a nine per cent deficit in rainfall, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Alongside Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal northeastern states recorded the maximum deficiency, the weather agency said. This is a second year in a row when monsoon ended with below normal rainfall. This year saw Kerala receiving an unprecedented rainfall during the monsoon triggering one of the worst floodings in a century in which hundreds perished. Odisha gets 29.4 per cent surplus rainfall in September, 2018

Odisha received an average rainfall of 300.1 mm in September against the long term average (LTA) of 231.9 mm, registering a surplus of 29.4 per cent. Kendrapara district recorded the highest rainfall of 653.0 mm, registering a 175.2 per cent surplus while Jharsuguda district received the lowest rainfall of 122.3 mm, which was 42.0 per cent deficit during the month, an official in the Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office said Sunday. The cumulative rainfall of the state from June 1, 2018 up to September end was 1292.2 mm against the LTA of 1144.3 mm registering a surplus of 12.9 per cent, he said. Eleven districts - Kalahandi, Puri, Malkangiri, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Koraput and Rayagada - received surplus rainfall more than 19 per cent during the period. Cyclonic winds in Bay of Bengal delay withdrawal of SW monsoon

Cyclonic circulations in the Bay of Bengal have delayed the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon this year, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said here Tuesday. The withdrawal of the southwest monsoon is now expected to begin from September 29, a delay of four days compared to the last year. "The southwest monsoon was excepted to show indicators of its withdrawal in the last week (September 16-22) but cyclonic circulations in the Bay of Bengal delayed its movement," the official said. In IMD parlance, a cyclonic circulation is the atmospheric wind flow in upper levels associated with any low pressure system. The wind flow is counter clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. Himachal: Amid heavy downpour, MeT forecasts more rains

With heavy rain continually lashing Himachal Pradesh (HP), the metrological department (MeT) on Monday forecasted more rainfall for the hilly state.Speaking to ANI, Manmohan Singh, the director of the Shimla MeT center, said, "The state has witnessed moderate, heavy and extremely heavy rainfall recently.
