LS polls: Voting for 5th phase begins in 51 parliamentary seats across 7 states

Amethi/ Ayodhya (UP), Barrackpore (WB), Saran (Bihar), May 06 (ANI): Voting for the Fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections has begun on 51 parliamentary constituencies across seven states. This phase will see one of the key contests, between Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Union Minister Smriti Irani in Amethi. Also in the fray are Home Minister Rajnath Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Voters began to queue up outside polling centres early Monday morning. This is an important phase for BJP in Uttar Pradesh since it had won 12 out of the 14 seats in the 2014 general elections. With this phase, the elections will come to a close in Rajasthan where the remaining 12 seats go to the polls. Lok Sabha election is considered as the biggest festival of democracy in the country.

J-K Police organises cultural programme under Civic Action Programme

EAM Sushma Swaraj campaigns for Gautam Gambhir in Delhi

New Delhi, May 06 (ANI): Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj campaigned for BJP's East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir in national capital's Ghazipur area. While addressing the gathering EAM Swaraj blessed Gambhir for the victory and said, "Four phases of Lok Sabha election has been completed, and the result has been declared that PM Narendra Modi is again becoming the Prime Minister." The BJP has fielded Gambhir from the East Delhi parliamentary constituency replacing sitting party MP Maheish Girri. A triangular contest on the seat is on the cards, with Gambhir pitted against Atishi of the Aam Admni Party and Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress.

Gujarat ATS team arrests history-sheeter from Botad forest

Ahmedabad (Gujarat), May 06 (ANI): An Anti-Terrorism Squad team on May 5 apprehended a criminal, who is accused in several cases of murder, extortion and robbery. The accused was arrested from a forest in Gujarat's Botad district. On receiving a tip-off that accused Jusab Allarakha was hiding in the forest in Botad district, the Gujarat ATS constituted a five-member team, which included four women personnel. Allarakha is wanted in several cases in different cities and districts, adding that he jumped parole in June last year.

Civilian injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Poonch

Poonch (JandK), May 06 (ANI): A civilian was injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Degwar village of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. The civilian received bullet injury on his head during ceasefire violation that took place on May 5 at around 8:30 pm. Tehsildar Haveli Poonch, Naresh Kumar said, "He was injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan around 8:30 pm today. He suffered a bullet injury in the head. The treatment is underway." Yesterday, Pakistan resorted to mortar shelling and firing of small arms in Poonch and Rajouri districts.

New Delhi, May 05 (ANI): As Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East Priyanka Gandhi labeled her father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi as a "martyr" in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling him as a "corrupt number one", the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday underlined the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Bhopal gas tragedy, the infamous Shah Bano case, and other events that happened during Rajiv Gandhi government to attack the Congress party.
