The Reserve Bank's next meeting of the rate setting panel will be held for three days beginning October 7. The government yesterday appointing three members on the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC). On September 28, the RBI had postponed the meeting of the MPC, which must have a quorum of four, as the appointment of independent members was delayed. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting on compensation for the states remained inconclusive on Monday, with 20-21 states opting for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) window of Rs 1.10 trillion (earlier it was Rs 97,000 crore) and around 10 states insisting the Centre borrow and disburse the money. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi met the family members of the victim who were allegedly gang raped in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi hugged the mother of the victim, at the latter's residence. Gandhi said, the family wants a judicial inquiry into the incident. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed over the Hathras case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). SIT (Special Investigation Team) arrived at the residence of the victim to investigate. 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and later died on September 29.
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday proceeded on foot towards Hathras to meet the family of the Dalit gang-rape victim after their convoy was stopped in Greater Noida by the UP Police. Rahul Gandhi alleged that he was lathicharged and pushed to the ground by the Uttar Pradesh police. A large number of Congress workers from Uttar Pradesh accompanied the two leaders on their march towards Hathras. They also raised slogans against the UP government. All the 32 accused in the Babri mosque demolition case, including BJP veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, were acquitted by a special CBI court which said there was no conclusive proof against them. Delivering the much-awaited verdict in the 28-year-old case, CBI judge S K Yadav did not accept newspapers and video cassettes as evidence. Advani, 92, Joshi, 87, and Uma Bharti, 61, were not present in court and watched via video link when the verdict was announced. They had all been accused of criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity and inciting activists with incendiary speeches from a dais next to the site. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would consider a "very careful, very calibrated unwinding of emergency measures" for the economy once an end to the coronavirus pandemic was in sight, Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Thursday, urging banks to strengthen their finances. “Banks' balance sheets will be under stress — that is stating the obvious. What is more important is how banks react and respond to the challenge," Das said while delivering the keynote address at the finale of Business Standard’s six-part webinar series ‘Unlock BFSI 2.0’.
