Air quality remains 'poor', layer of smog blankets Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 26 (ANI): A thick layer of smog blankets Delhi on November 26. Additionally, the air quality of national capital also took a major hit due to a combination of firecracker emissions, stubble burning and unfavourable meteorological conditions in past one month. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data and System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), major pollutants in Delhi's Lodhi Road area were PM 2.5 at 215 and PM 10 at 203 both in 'poor' category. Higher value of AQI indicates greater level of air pollution and health concern. Residents have complained of a spike in respiratory problems, allergies and other health issues. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared public health emergency in Delhi due to rising air pollution levels. To curb air pollution, the Arvind Kejriwal led-government had earlier implemented the odd-even scheme in Delhi from November 04-November 15

New Delhi, Nov 26 (ANI): According to a study being presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, Researchers using MRI have found signs of damage that may be related to inflammation in the brains of obese adolescents. Obesity in young people has become a significant public health problem. In the U.S., the percentage of children and adolescents affected by obesity has more than tripled since the 1970s, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Data from the World Health Organization indicates that the number of overweight or obese infants and young children ages five years or younger increased from 32 million globally in 1990 to 41 million in 2016. While obesity is primarily associated with weight gain, recent evidence suggests that the disease triggers inflammation in the nervous system that could damage important regions of the brain.
