COVID-19 patient violated home quarantine norms, infected 2-year-old daughter: Himachal DGP

Shimla (HP), May 12 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh DGP Sita Ram Mardi on May 12 said an FIR has been registered against a COVID-19 positive man who broke home quarantine rules and infected his two-year-old daughter. He also warned people, who are in home quarantine, of stringent action against them if they violate the guidelines given to them. Himachal Pradesh has recorded 59 confirmed cases and 2 deaths from COVID-19 till now.

57 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Nepal, bringing total to 191

Kathmandu (Nepal), May 12 (ANI): Nepal on Tuesday confirmed 57 new cases of COVID-19, highest single-day rise taking the number of positive cases 191, Health and Population Ministry confirmed. Swab samples tested at National Public Health Laboratory has confirmed 57 new cases in the Himalayan nation, more than double the cases registered a day earlier. On Monday, a total of 24 cases were registered. Among the new registered cases, 39 are from Parsa, 9 from Rupandehi, 8 from Kapilvastu and One from Bara District. Buffered in between India and China, the Himalayan Nation- Nepal till date has recorded 33 successful recoveries with zero mortality. Nepal earlier on February had confirmed its first case of SARS-CoV-2 and second case on March after which it has been placed under nationwide lockdown since 24 March extended for 4 times.

Chennai, May 12 (ANI): Nurses at Omandurar Medical College in Chennai paid tribute to Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, on International Nurses Day on May 12. Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar also visited the hospital and expressed his gratitude to the nurses and nursing staff there. Nightingale was born on May 12, 1820 and people across the world are celebrating her 200th birthday anniversary amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Train leaves for Dibrugarh from Delhi after services resumed on select routes amid lockdown

New Delhi, May 12 (ANI): On May 12 a special train left from New Delhi Railway Station for Dibrugarh, Assam. Railways has resumed services of 15 pairs of special air-conditioned passenger trains from today. Railways has got tremendous response in regards to ticket booking. Railways will follow all precautions and social distancing norms which it made in consultation with Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health for the safety of the passengers. Train services were stopped since March 22 in view of the coronavirus.

India's COVID-19 mortality rate at 3.2 percent is one of the lowest in world: Health Minister

New Delhi, May 12 (ANI): Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Harsh Vardhan on May 12 informed that country's recovery rate from dreadful COVID-19 is getting better every day. "Today our recovery rate is at 31.7 percent ," said Harsh Vardhan. Emphasizing on mortality rate of India being one of the lowest in the world, he added, "Today, the mortality rate is around 3.2 percent . In several states it is even less than this. Global fatality rate is around 7-7.5 percent ."

India's COVID-19 doubling rate improved to 12.2 days in last 3 days: Harsh Vardhan

New Delhi, May 12 (ANI): Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Harsh Vardhan on May 12 informed that country's doubling rate of COVID-19 has increased to 12.2 days in last three days as compared to the rate of last 14 days which was 10.9 days. Meanwhile, total number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 70756 as of May 12 with Maharashtra being the worst affected as it has over 23,000 infections.

On May 11, number of cured patients higher than active COVID-19 cases in UP: Govt

Lucknow (UP), May 12 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Principal Health Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad on May 12 informed that for the first time the state has higher number of discharged people than active cases of COVID-19 on May 11. "1758 people were discharged and 1735 active cases were reported in the state till yesterday," said Prasad. UP has recorded 3573 confirmed cases and 80 deaths from COVID-19 till now. Lockdown has been extended till May 17.

Over 2.80 lakh migrants returned to UP through 233 trains: Govt

Lucknow (UP), May 12 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish K Awasthi on May 12 informed about the latest developments of the state in regards to migrants who have returned amid the COVID-19 lockdown. While briefing the media persons, he said that 233 trains have brought 2,81,408 migrant workers to the state till date. "Today 12 trains have arrived till now and more will come in the coming days. All the passengers will be screened and medical checkups will be conducted," said Awasthi.

Equity indices fall, Reliance tumbles 5.7 pc on profit-booking

New Delhi, May 12 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices recovered from an intraday low point on Tuesday but remained in the negative zone ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address the nation later in the evening. A day earlier, Prime Minister Modi had told Chief Ministers that lockdown to contain the COVID-19 outbreak must be gradually lifted to allow economic activities. But some reports said that when coronavirus cases are rising, the nationwide lockdown could be extended beyond May 17 with eased restrictions for businesses. At the closing bell, the BSE S-P Sensex was down by 190 points or 0.6 per cent at 31,371 while the Nifty 50 edged lower by 43 points or 0.4 per cent at 9,197.

'Health screening will be done': RPF DG on resumption of train services

New Delhi, May 12 (ANI): In light of resumption of passenger train services, Director General (DG) Railway Protection Force informed that thorough screenings of passengers will be done at stations keeping in mind coronavirus situation. "Health screening of passengers will be conducted at the stations. We have also requested them to travel light as no coolies are available at stations.
