Ladakh women's team wins IHAI National Ice Hockey Championship 2020

Leh, Jan 08 (ANI): UT Ladakh women's team tasted victory of at Ice Hockey Association of India (IHAI) National Ice Hockey Championship -2020. Delhi ended up with runners-up trophy. Not only girls but Ladakh boys' team also won in their respective category. Girls will play in the Asian Championship between 23rd and 28th in the Philippines on February.

Central unions, other service sectors call strike against Centre's policies: CITU Gen Secy

'I was raising issue of basic rights in JandK': Girl who protested holding 'Free Kashmir' placard

Mumbai, Jan 08 (ANI): Protest erupted at Mumbai's Gateway of India over JNU violence. A girl was seen protesting with 'Free Kashmir' placard, which sparked controversy and FIR was also registered against her. The girl said her name is Mehak and she is a writer by profession. She issued a clarification by saying that "narrative put around the situation is absolutely fake". "Like anybody else who believes in democracy I joined the protest, there were several people who were protesting. I saw a bunch of people who were painting placards, be it of NRC, CAA, JNU and then I saw a 'Free Kashmir' placard. I want to clarify I am not a Kashmiri and I am a Maharashtra," said Mehak. "So when I saw this placard, I realised why we were there, it was to raise voice for basic human rights, and right now internet shutdown since last 5 months, they have completely lost that right, so I was protesting for peace," she stated further.

Facebook to remove deepfakes, AI-manipulated media

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Facebook announced new steps to curb the spread of misinformation on its platform. The company will now remove deepfakes and all types of manipulated media. As described on its official blog, Facebook will remove manipulated media if it has been edited to mislead; it is a product of artificial intelligence or machine learning that alters content in a video to make it appear authentic. Content, whether deepfake or not, will also be removed if found in violation of Facebook's Community Standards. Facebook is collaborating with third-party fact-checkers, media, and academic communities, and news organisations to identify deepfakes and manipulated media.

'Wait for justice is over': Kishan Reddy on death warrants to Nirbhaya's convicts

New Delhi, Jan 07 (ANI): Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy, on Tuesday said that the Delhi court's issuance of death warrants to all four convicts in 2012 Delhi gangrape case shows that there should be zero tolerance for such crimes, and the wait for justice is now over. He said, "Wait of the people for justice is over today. It's not about execution of convicts, but the decision shows that there should be zero tolerance for such crimes. JNU teachers, students continue protest against campus attack

New Delhi, Jan 07 (ANI): Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) teachers and students continued their protest outside varsity, against violence that occurred in premise in the evening of January 05. Over 30 people including professors and students sustained injuries after masked goons attacked people inside JNU. Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh alleged that professors and students affiliated with RSS and ABVP are behind the violence. On the other hand, Hindu Raksha Dal leader Pinki Choudhary has taken the responsibility of the assault on teachers and students in JNU. JNU violence: Clash breaks out between ABVP, NSUI workers in Ahmedabad

Equities close in green, Nifty realty gains by 1.9%

New Delhi, Jan 07 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices trimmed most of the early gains on January 07 but closed in the green with no new escalation in the Middle East. The BSE S-P Sensex closed 193 points or half a per cent higher at 40,869 while the Nifty 50 edged up by 60 points at 12,053. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the positive zone with Nifty realty up by 1.93 per cent, metal by 0.7 per cent and pharma by 0.6 per cent. Among stocks, mining and metal major Vedanta was star of the day with gains of 3.6 per cent at Rs 156.05 per share.
