Mahastupa collapses after heavy rain in AP's Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Oct 24 (ANI): A portion of the Mahastupa in Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex has collapsed, following heavy rainfall in the region. There were many attempts to preserve the heritage site. Archaeology department has spent resources in developing the area and preserving the site. However, the stupa was damaged due to incessant rains and major part of it collapsed.

Agreed upon 50-50 formula, will definitely continue alliance: Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut

Mumbai, Oct 24 (ANI): Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut amid vote counting in Maharashtra said that the party will definitely continue alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). "I am going to meet Uddhav Ji. Numbers are not that great we will definitely continue with the alliance. We have agreed upon a 50-50 formula," said Raut. Counting of votes is underway in Maharashtra. BJP is leading with over seats in the state, while ally Shiv Sena is leading on over 60 seats.

New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will retain Haryana and Maharashtra as the party has done good work in state. He said, "After 5 years they (people) gave us massive mandate in Parliament. Now they will give us mandate in Assembly elections. After Maharashtra, Haryana we will win Jharkhand and Delhi also."

Hisar (Haryana), Oct 24 (ANI): As counting of votes is underway in Haryana, Finance Minister of Haryana and BJP candidate from Narnaund constituency in Hisar district, Captain Abhimanyu said that as per the latest trends, I feel that public mandate is in favour of Jannnayak Janta Party (JJP). He further said, "We respect public mandate." Haryana has a 90-member assembly. The state went to polls in a single phase on October 21. Counting of votes began at 8 am today.

Voting for BDC elections underway in J-K

Rajouri/ Ganderbal (Jammu and Kashmir), Oct 24 (ANI): The voting for Block Development Councils (BDC) elections started in Jammu and Kashmir. The voting began at 9 AM on October 24. Preparations were made at the polling stations. BDC elections are being held for the first time in 310 blocks in J-K and the counting will also take place on the same day.

Counting begins in Haryana and Maharashtra

Charkhi Dadri / Jind (Haryana)/ Mumbai, Oct 24 (ANI): The counting of votes for Assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra began today. Results for the by-elections in 51 assembly seats and 2 Lok Sabha seats across 18 states also began at 8 AM. In Maharashtra, 288 seats went to polls on October 21. 90 seats went to poll for Haryana Assembly elections on October 21.

President Kovind returns to India after concluding 7-day visit to Philippines, Japan

New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): President Ram Nath Kovind on October 24 returned from Tokyo after concluding his 7-day visit to Philippines and Japan. The visit witnessed the President taking part in the enthronement ceremony of newly anointed Japanese Emperor Naruhito and unveiling the bust of Mahatama Gandhi at the Center of peace education at a college in Manila, Philippines. President Kovind's visit to Tokyo was the first presidential visit to Japan from India after a gap of 19 years.

Kamlesh Tiwari murder case: 2 accused being taken to Lucknow from Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Oct 24 (ANI): In the latest development in Kamlesh Tiwari murder case, two accused in Kamlesh Tiwari murder case are being taken to Lucknow from Ahmedabad airport after a local court granted 72 hours transit remand. The accused, Ashfaq Hussain Jakir Hussain Shaikh and Moinuddin Khurshid Pathan were arrested by Gujarat's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from the Gujarat-Rajasthan border on Tuesday. A total of five persons have been arrested so far. Recently, other accused were sent to police custody for four days in connection with the case. On October 18, Tiwari was murdered in Naka area of Lucknow.

Farmers throw vegetables in Mysuru amid low prices due to rains

Mysuru (Karnataka), Oct 24 (ANI): Farmers in Karnataka's Mysuru were forced to throw away tons of vegetables as prices sank in market due to heavy rains in the region. Tomatoes, cauliflowers and other vegetables were seen lying on ground at Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) market in Mysuru. Vegetables became wet garbage for the farmers as they don't have proper shelter or godown to store them. APMC Market is going to hold meeting with vendors to stability in prices of vegetables.

DK Shivakumar released from Tihar jail, thanks Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): Hours after Delhi High Court granted bail to senior Congress senior leader DK Shivakumar, the Karnataka leader walked out of Tihar jail here on October 23. After walking out from the jail, he said, "I thank all those who have helped me and stood with me in the hour of crisis. I thank all the leaders of fairest political party including my party president Sonia Gandhi, she came all the way to visit me give me strength and solidarity." The Delhi high Court on October 23 granted bail to Shivakumar in the alleged money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Court has ordered that the senior Congress leader cannot leave India without the court's permission. He was arrested by the ED on September 3.

Google Chrome 78 releases Tab customisation, Forced Dark Mode, more

New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): Google released its latest Chrome 78 stable version that brings a host of improvements and bug fixes. A new customisation menu for the New Tab page lets you personalise your tab while the Forced Dark Mode enables dark mode for even those websites which do not support the dark theme, Engadget reports. Chrome 78 also comes with support for Password Checkup that lets you know if you are signing in with unsafe credentials. Google is also testing DNS-over-HTTPS protocol with Chrome 78 to prevent spying. It will be rolled out for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS in the coming days.

Clash erupts between BJP, TMC workers in WB's Cooch Behar

Govt increases MSP for Rabi crops

New Delhi, Oct 23 (ANI): Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, announced on October 23 that the Union Cabinet has decided to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Rabi crops, MSP for wheat and barley has been increased by Rs 85, gram by Rs 255, Masur (Lentil) by Rs 325, mustard by Rs 225.

School set ablaze in JandK's Kulgam

Kulgam (JandK), Oct 23 (ANI): A school in Jammu-Kashmir's Kulgam area was set ablaze, allegedly by terrorists, on Tuesday (October 22). Visuals show debris of the burnt school roof strewn on the floor. The visuals also show the scorched walls and pieces of charred furniture. Meanwhile, the centre has stated that the situation in Kashmir is slowly being restored back to normalcy. The government had revoked Article 370 (August 05) which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated the state into two union territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Arvind Kejriwal welcomes centre's decision to give ownership rights to people living in unauthorised colonies

New Delhi, Oct 23 (ANI): Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, welcomed the decision of central government to give ownership rights to 40 lakh people who are living in unauthorised colonies in Delhi. "This has been an old demand of the people of Delhi. We welcome this decision and I would like to thank central government on behalf of the people," said Kejriwal at a press conference. He further added that the Delhi government submitted the whole proposal over the scheme on 12th November 2015 and later they submitted their suggestions over the draft on 24th July 2019.
