Watch: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh boards French military aircraft in Paris

Paris (France), Oct 08 (ANI): Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 8 arrived at Velizy - Villacoublay Air Base. From Villacoublay Air Base he travelled to Merignac to receive the first Rafale combat aircraft. The Defence Minister is going to officially receive first of the 36 Rafale jets. After receiving the fighter jet, Singh will perform 'Shastra Puja' (worship of weapons) on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra. He will also take a sortie in the aircraft. Singh is on a three-day visit to France. During his visit, he is looking forward to strengthening ties between both the countries.

Rajnath Singh performs 'Shastra Puja' on Rafale aircraft in France

Bordeaux (France), Oct 08 (ANI): Post the official handover of first Rafale aircraft in Bordeaux city of France, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh performed 'Shastra Puja' on the Rafale jet. 'Shastra Puja' is worshipping of the weapon. Earlier, at the Rafale handover ceremony, Singh hailed the India-France relations, and called it a historic day for Indian forces. Eric Trappier, the CEO of Dassault Aviation, the maker of Rafale aircrafts, said, "It is a great day for Indian Air Force and India, also for France and Dassault Aviation. We did what was in the contract and now it is ready to fly. We are very proud."

Shimla-Kalka special heritage train attracts scores of tourists

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Oct 08 (ANI): A special train on the Shimla-Kalka heritage route has been drawing a lot of attention. Scores of tourists have been taking this train to visit the picturesque town of Shimla. Besides welcoming tourists, the railway authorities here have also been sensitising passengers on cleanliness and preservation of heritage. A domestic tourist from Chandigarh, Abhinash Mital, said, "I travelled through the toy train for the first time and I would suggest everyone to take this train during the festivals." The Kalka Shimla railway line was declared a UNESCO world heritage line in 2008. It has been a great tourist attraction since then.

PMC Bank crisis affects preparations for 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev

Chandigarh (Punjab), Oct 08 (ANI): The Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank's withdrawal limit has affected the preparations for the 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. At least 10 gurdwaras had saved crore of rupees in the bank to commemorate the event. Speaking to ANI on the issue, Chandigarh Sector-8 Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee president SS Kohli said, "If I am not wrong, I believe that a huge amount of funds belonging to different gurudwara management committees were parked with this bank (PMC Bank) in controversy." He urged the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to immediately release 50 per cent of the amount deposited in the PMC Bank. "If not full then at least 50 per cent of amount lying as deposits, saved in the bank, should be released immediately as a special case," he said. On Monday, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) demanded that the RBI should take over the operations of the PMC Bank and the money of account holders should be given back to them.

Mysuru King offers prayers to 'Shami' tree on Vijaya Dashami

Mysuru (Karnataka), Oct 8 (ANI): On the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, the king of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Tuesday performed rituals and offered prayers to 'Shami' tree at Mysore Palace. Wearing the royal traditional sherwani with the high turban, added with gold jewellery, the 27th titular king of the Yada dynasty was seen performing the rituals and offering prayers to 'Shami' tree. As part of the Dasara celebrations, 'Vajramushti Kalaga' (an ancient form of martial art) was also organised at the palace. Viewers were seen surrounding the ring and cheering for wrestlers with great vigour. Locals witnessed the rituals and the cultural programmes organised at the palace. Elephants decked up with beautiful designs for grand 'Jamboo Savari' procession in Mysuru

Mysuru (Karnataka), Oct 08 (ANI): A large number of elephants have been decorated beautifully for the traditional 'Jamboo Savari' procession to take place on the occasion of grand Dasara festival in Mysuru on Tuesday. The trunks, ears and legs of the elephants have been painted with creative designs in red, white, green and yellow colours. KCVP chief ride bullock cart to protest against central, state govt for 'neglecting' Karnataka flood victims

Bengaluru, Oct 08 (ANI): The Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha (KCVP) on October 8 staged a protest on bullock cart in Bengaluru against state and central government for neglecting North Karnataka flood victims and concentrating more on celebration of Mysuru dasara. Amid heavy rainfall, waterproof Ravana effigy installed for Dussehra in Bhopal

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Oct 08 (ANI): In order to prevent heavy downpour to play spoilsport on the occasion of Dussehra, a committee in Bhopal has installed a waterproof Ravana effigy on the old compound ground. Not only that, but the committee has also installed the effigy of Aksayakumara, the youngest son of Ravana, to educate children about his role in Ramayan. Few isolated places over Madhya Pradesh are receiving rainfall from the past couple of days resulting in water logging in the areas. In few places, relentless rain brought places such as Bhopal, Gwalior and Indore to a standstill, resulting in a traffic jam at several junctions and roads across the city. Miscreants attack security guard at Kandla zoo with swords, sticks in Gujarat's Kutch

Kutch (Gujarat), Oct 07 (ANI): Unidentified miscreants attacked the security guard at the Kandla Special Economic Zoo when they were denied entry into the zoo premises. The incident was caught on CCTV camera on October 5. In the footage, the miscreants can be seen entering the premises from the other side of the gate and beating up the guard with swords and sticks.
