Incessant rainfall shoots up onion prices in parts of country

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Hyderabad, Oct 23 (ANI): Onion prices continue to rise in Hyderabad after crops were damaged due to rainfall in various parts of the country. "Onion prices are really high right now. Government should try to control prices as we can't afford to buy. We're helpless right now," said Ali, a customer. On the other side, in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, onion price rose to 70 rupees per kilogram.

Red sandalwood logs seized in AP's Chittoor, smugglers escape

Chittoor District (Andhra Pradesh), Oct 23 (ANI): Task Force Police seized around 16 logs of red sandalwood while conducting raid in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district. Smugglers left the red sander logs and ran away from spot. Red sander logs were seized during combing operation from Srivari Mettu area of Chittoor. Police has filed a case and investigation is underway in this regard. More details are awaited.

65% voter turnout in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council polls

Leh (Ladakh), Oct 22 (ANI): LAHDC, Leh Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya informed about the 6th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) election 2020 which was held today (Oct 22). He said that the voter turnout was nearly 65 percent. He also informed that out of 294 polling stations, 57 polling stations were handled by women polling staff completely and 38 polling stations had 75 per cent of women polling staff. People who are above 65 years, COVID-19 patients and specially-abled persons were provided special postal ballet facility. EVMs were used for the first time in Leh council polls.
