Mumbai, Mar 12 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices fell sharply during early hours on Thursday, a day after the World Health Organisation declared coronavirus a global pandemic and US President Donald Trump announced a 30-day ban on travel to United States from Europe over COVID-19. Oil also slipped further as Russia and Saudi Arabia increase output and see prices fall. At 10 am, the BSE SandP Sensex was down by 1,793 points or 5.02 per cent to 33,904 while the Nifty 50 dipped by 526 points at 9,932. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were deep in red with metal down by 7.1 per cent, PSU bank by 7 per cent, realty by 6.8 per cent and auto by 5.4 per cent. Among stocks, Tata Motors was the top loser after dropping by over 11 per cent at Rs 87.80 per share. Yes Bank and State Bank of India slipped by 9.7 per cent and 7.3 per cent respectively. Metal stocks suffered heavy losses with Tata Steel down by 9 per cent, Vedanta by 8.7 per cent and JSW Steel by 7.9 per cent.

Mumbai, Mar 12 (ANI): An artist and animation professional has created a portrait of Shivaji Maharaj on his birth anniversary. Nitin Dinesh Kamble has used over 46,000 plastic beads to make this portrait. The grand portrait is state of the art conceptualization. Speaking to ANI, Kamble said, "I have made a portrait of Shivaji Maharaj. I have used 46, 080 plastic beads in it. Plastic is banned in India, but we can't do anything about plastic that already exists. So I got this idea of using this plastic to create something nice. That's why I created this portrait. I used six different colours in it." As per Hindu Lunar calendar, Shivaji Jayanti will be celebrated on Mar 12.
Hyderabad, Mar 12 (ANI): A Hyderabad based start-up Celestial e-Mobility has unveiled an electric powered tractor. The tractor holds features such as battery swapping, regenerative braking etc. The tractor is engineered to be a zero - emission, hence it is environment friendly. The co- founder of Celestial e - Mobility, Siddhartha Durairajan told ANI, "I am from an engineering design background and my partner Syed in from batteries technology from last 19 years. I also have (another partner) Mithun who is from manufacturing background. Another one who is an expert in tractor built. SO, if you look at it, design, domain, battery and manufacturing, all have come together to build the first electric tractor."
New Delhi, Mar 12 (ANI): Intermittent fasting works wonders for overall health, particularly for the liver, as it inhibits the secretion of a protein that regulates a large number of liver genes, new research has found. The findings will help develop new interventions to lower disease risk and discover the optimum intervals for fasting. In experiments with mice, researchers led by Dr Mark Larance at the University of Sydney identified how fasting on alternate days affected proteins in the liver, showing the unexpected impact on fatty acid metabolism and the surprising role played by a master regulator protein that controls many biological pathways in the liver and other organs. In particular, the researchers found that the HNF4-(alpha) protein, which regulates a large number of liver genes, plays a previously unknown role during intermittent fasting. He said, "Analysing CCTV footage using face identification software to identify the miscreants, it (the software) does not discriminate on basis of religion or clothes. All those who caused the violence will not be able to escape the law."
Mumbai, Mar 11 (ANI): Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on March 11 hinted at the postponement of IPL 2020 matches in the state in view of the spread of coronavirus. "All ministers in cabinet meeting today reached a consensus to either postpone or cancel IPL matches in view of coronavirus transmission threat. Final decision will be taken tomorrow. Assembly session can also be either postponed or adjourned," Tope said.
New Delhi, Mar 11 (ANI): Replying on the debate in Lok Sabha on Delhi violence, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday praised the Delhi Police for not allowing the riots to spread to other areas and contained the rioting within 36 hours. He further said, "US President's program was pre-scheduled; it was in my constituency. My visit there was also pre-scheduled. The next day, when US President visited Delhi, I wasn't present at any event. The whole time I was sitting with Police officials. I only requested NSA to visit the area." At least 53 people were killed and more than 200 sustained injuries in the violence.
Srinagar (J-K), Mar 11(ANI): Srinagar Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu, on March 11 said that Srinagar Municipal Corporation has unanimously passed a resolution to restrict public gatherings in the city by closing schools and coaching centers in view of coronavirus transmission threat. He further added, "We decided to close the institutions for few days to sterilize these places. We have set up 500 teams with two members in each team for spraying chemicals in the city."
