New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Federation has appealed for normalcy in campus after violent attack on students and teachers on evening of January 05. Professor Ashwini Mohapatra said, "We appeal for normalcy on campus. JNUTF urges the Administration to ensure that those students who are registering in new semester are not subjected to any harassment and coercion by those averse to normal functioning of the University." There are 200 members in Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Federation.
New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Responding to the missile strikes by Iran on US targets in Iraq, Iranian Ambassador to India, Dr Ali Chegeni, said that Iran is not looking for war. He said, "Whatever we have done is a part of our response. Millions of people who participated in the funeral of General Qassem Soleimani had demanded the government for it. We have done it. We are not looking for war." Further adding on India's role in ongoing US-Iran tension, Chegeni added, "India is a part of the region. It should be a part of de-escalation. We are welcoming any initiative from our good friends from India." Tensions between US and Iran escalated after Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards' elite Quds Force was killed in a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport on January 03.
New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Speaking on the escalated tension between Iran and US, Iranian Ambassador to India Dr Ali Chegeni said that the Chabahar port project will not be affected by the ongoing conflict. Chegeni said, "Chabahar Port is a symbol of very good friendship between India, Iran, Afghanistan, Commonwealth of Independent States, Europe, whole Persian Gulf. It does not belong only to Iran and India. Chabahar will go on, don't worry about it." Ever since the operation of Chabahar port commenced in December 2018, India's trade with Central Asian countries has improved.

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices recovered from intraday lows but ended with marginal losses on Wednesday as investors feared a wider conflict in the Middle East after Iran fired missiles at US forces in Iraq overnight. The BSE SandP Sensex closed 52 points lower at 40,817 while the Nifty 50 slipped by 28 points at 12,025. Except for Nifty FMCG and IT, all sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the red. Among stocks, Eicher Motors closed 4.3 per cent lower at Rs 19,900 per share while Coal India slipped by 2.5 per cent, Larsen and Toubro by 2.2 per cent and Indian Oil Corporation by 1.9 per cent. India imports around 85 per cent of its crude oil requirement. Hence any rise in prices can lead to higher inflation and disturb the country's fiscal deficit.
New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Cabinet has approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between India and United Kingdom for enabling energy self sufficiency for Indian Railways. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar informed the development in a press conference on January 08. Cabinet also approved ratification of migration and mobility partnership agreement between India and France. Agreement signed in March 2018, is valid for seven years and incorporates provisions for auto-renewal.
New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Delhi, Devender Arya said that on the requests of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration, the civil deployment will continue inside the University campus and uniformed deployment is continued outside the university. "The cases have been transferred to crime branch for further investigation," DCP further added. However, almost three days after the violent protest no arrest have been took place

Demonstration was held by students at Delhi University's North Campus. They also supported the 'bharat bandh' called by ten trade unions. The protest against CAA and NRC has continued in the country ever since it became a law.

Speaking on the social media campaign to boycott Deepika Padukone's movie, she said that she will watch the movie. She said, "I don't watch many hindi movies, they're actually making people like me go and watch her movies and support her." Deepika Padukone visited JNU on January 08 to show solidarity with students who were protesting there against violence.

Speaking on it, BJP leader Sanjay Paswan said, "The one who will stand with 'tukde tukde gang' will be opposed. Public will be angry on him or her. That's why we all are abide by it. We got the information that somebody misguided her (Deepika Padukone) and took her to JNU. And if heroes and heroines are going there, we are also capable and we have more stock of heroes and heroines than they have. It is a matter of concern that some people are spreading violence in JNU. Definitely, I feel actors, actresses, authors and authoress or whoever's vision is not clear will be opposed"

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Equity indices extended losses on Wednesday afternoon after Iran fired missiles at US forces in Iraq overnight, pushing oil prices higher as investors feared a wider conflict in the Middle East. The attacks on Ain Al-Asad airbase and another at Erbil came hours after the funeral of top military commander Qassem Soleimani whose killing in a US drone strike led to sharp escalations in a developing conflict across the region. The BSE SandP Sensex was down by 221 points to 40,648 while the Nifty 50 edged lower by 78 points at 11,975. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the red. Nifty PSU bank dipped by 1.8 per cent, metal by 1.6 per cent, realty by 1.1 per cent and auto by 1 per cent. Meanwhile, Asian financial markets were roiled with stocks sliding as investors feared a wider conflict in the Middle East could push up oil prices and dent US corporate earnings due to rising energy costs.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 08 (ANI): Delhi court issued death warrants to all four convicts in 2012 Delhi gang rape case on January 07. Earlier, Meerut hangman Pawan Kumar had shown his interest and said that if jail administration will contact him, he is ready to hang the four convicts. Speaking on Pawan's appointment, Jail Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Jai Kumar Singh, "We welcome court's decision. Nirbhaya's family, including the whole country, was waiting for this decision because everyone was mourned by the kind of incident that took place. Tihar jail had written to avail the service of hangman from Meerut for the execution of Nirbhaya rape case convicts. We have approved permission for the same."

Awhad said, "I firmly assure you that I am the representative of students in the government. I am the minister of the students in government. No injustice will be done to the peace-loving students who were silently protesting against the episode which happened in JNU. I stand with the students. I'll be representing them in the ministry and taking them to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister. I assure you once again that I am with the students."
