Snowfall brings temperature down is HP's Kullu

Kullu (Himachal Pradesh), Jan 08 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh's Kullu received heavy snowfall on Jan 08. The hilly area was covered in a thick blanket of snow. With the fresh spell of snow, temperature dipped further. Snowfall is expected to continue in Himachal Pradesh for couple of days.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee comes forward in support of 'bharat bandh'

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Jan 08 (ANI): At least ten trade unions have called for 'bharat bandh' on January 08. Bombs recovered from rail tracks in West Bengal

North 24 Parganas (West Bengal)/ South 24 Parganas (West Bengal) Jan 08 (ANI): Four crude bombs were recovered by police from railway tracks near Hridaypur railway station in North 24 Parganas. Meanwhile, 4 socket bombs were also recovered from tracks near Dakshin Barasat railway station in South 24 Parganas. Train services have been suspended due to bomb alert until the further notice. The suspected bombs have been disposed of by the local administration.

India witnesses for 'bharat bandh', railway and bus services affected

Chennai/Mumbai/Guwahati (Assam)/Hyderabad/Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Jan 08 (ANI): Several states in India called for 'bharat bandh' against anti-worker policies of Central Government on Jan 08. In Hyderabad, commuters faced difficulties as bus service were also affected. Protesters demand during 'bharat bandh' includes the Centre to drop the proposed labour reform. In Mumbai, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited employees protested against government decision of strategic disinvestment of Bharat Petroleum. Protesters raised anti-government slogans and criticised the Centre for its policies. They were holding placards, posters and banners against the government.

Equity indices trade lower on increasing US-Iran tensions

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices traded lower during early hours on Wednesday tracking losses in Asian peers as oil prices surged after Iran fired retaliatory attack at US forces based in Iraq. Besides, the GDP growth has been forecast to dip to an 11-year low of 5 per cent in the current financial year, mainly due to poor performance by the manufacturing and construction sectors. At 10:15 am, the BSE SandP Sensex dipped by 88 points to 40,781 while the Nifty 50 edged lower by 45 points at 12,008. All sectoral indices were in the red zone except for Nifty IT which gained slightly by 0.15 per cent. Nifty PSU bank lost by 1.34 per cent each, metal by 0.9 per cent and realty by 0.6 per cent.

2 dead after buses collided in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor

Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh), Jan 08 (ANI): At least two people died and many got injured in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor. 'I was raising issue of basic rights in JandK': Girl who protested holding 'Free Kashmir' placard

Mumbai, Jan 08 (ANI): Protest erupted at Mumbai's Gateway of India over JNU violence. A girl was seen protesting with 'Free Kashmir' placard, which sparked controversy and FIR was also registered against her. The girl said her name is Mehak and she is a writer by profession. She issued a clarification by saying that "narrative put around the situation is absolutely fake". "Like anybody else who believes in democracy I joined the protest, there were several people who were protesting. I saw a bunch of people who were painting placards, be it of NRC, CAA, JNU and then I saw a 'Free Kashmir' placard. I want to clarify I am not a Kashmiri and I am a Maharashtra," said Mehak. Facebook to remove deepfakes, AI-manipulated media

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Facebook announced new steps to curb the spread of misinformation on its platform. The company will now remove deepfakes and all types of manipulated media. As described on its official blog, Facebook will remove manipulated media if it has been edited to mislead; it is a product of artificial intelligence or machine learning that alters content in a video to make it appear authentic. Content, whether deepfake or not, will also be removed if found in violation of Facebook's Community Standards. Facebook is collaborating with third-party fact-checkers, media, and academic communities, and news organisations to identify deepfakes and manipulated media.

'Wait for justice is over': Kishan Reddy on death warrants to Nirbhaya's convicts

New Delhi, Jan 07 (ANI): Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy, on Tuesday said that the Delhi court's issuance of death warrants to all four convicts in 2012 Delhi gangrape case shows that there should be zero tolerance for such crimes, and the wait for justice is now over. He said, "Wait of the people for justice is over today. It's not about execution of convicts, but the decision shows that there should be zero tolerance for such crimes.
