Google pauses Chrome update on Android over app-data loss

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Google has halted the rollout of Chrome 79 update on Android after reports of app-data loss. According to Engadget, users complained of losing data from third-party apps that use the WebView framework after updating to Chrome 79. While the data is intact, it is inaccessible due to the bug. It is unclear which apps are affected the most. Google is working on a fix including moving missed files or reverting to the old method.

Scientists compare human brain neurons with crabs to validate RNA sequencing

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): While we can count on crab as one of the tastiest delicacies of the seafood, its nervous system could help scientists learn what causes single neurons in the human brain to become out of whack, says a recent study. This can contribute to the development of neurological diseases like Alzheimer's disease, adds the study, which was published in the journal - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Researchers worked to validate a popular research method called RNA sequencing used to identify unknown neurons in the brain and sort them into various subtypes.

'Vijay Diwas' is celebrated to commemorate India's victory in 1971 war. The war was fought for liberation of Bangladesh, then East Pakistan.

RS Prasad slams Congress for supporting protests against CAA

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Union Law and Justice Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad slammed Congress party for 'supporting' protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) 2019. He said Congress is trying to paint the incidents in communal colour. "Its objective is to give citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. This Act poses no danger to citizenship of people of our country. Some are trying to flare religious tensions, it is sad Congress stands with them," said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Jamia protest: University appeals MHRD for high-level committee probe

New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): After Executive Council Meeting, Jamia Millia Islamia decided to recommend the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to set up a high-level committee or initiate a judicial inquiry into the incidents that took place during the students protest on December 15. "It has been decided that we would recommend the Ministry of Human Resource Development to set up a high-level committee or initiate a judicial inquiry into the matter," said registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia. "We have always encouraged students' voice and protest. As far as democratic rights are concerned, Jamia has never denied democratic rights to any student. They're welcome to voice their concerns, as long as it's peaceful and within rules and regulations," he further added.

Unnao rape case: Kuldeep Sengar found guilty, quantum of sentence will be pronounced tomorrow

New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): Delhi's Tis Hazari Court convicted BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar in Unnao rape-kidnapping case on Dec 16. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Dec 17. Speaking on it, victim's lawyer Poonam Kaushik said, "Today the victim and her family's struggle towards fight for justice has fulfilled. Yet to receive committee report on Tipu lessons in textbooks: Karnataka Minister

Bengaluru, Dec 16 (ANI): Speaking on the matter regarding Tipu Sultan's lessons in Class 7 and 10 textbooks, Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister, S Suresh Kumar told ANI that he is yet to receive the committee's report on it. Kumar said, "We are yet to receive the reports prepared by the committee regarding lessons on Tipu Sultan in textbooks. We have not received any report. Once I get the report, I will go through it, discuss with the Education team and take necessary action." BJP legislators like Appachu Ranjan objected to Tipu lessons in Class 7 and 10 textbooks glorifying him as a freedom fighter. Ranjan alleged Tipu was a tyrant and thus does not warrant being declared a 'freedom fighter'.

30 policemen received injuries in Jamia protest: Delhi Police

New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): Delhi Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) MS Randhawa informed that 30 police personnel got injured in violent protest near Jamia Millia Islamia on December 15. "Two SHOs suffered fractures, one and one personnel is in ICU," said Randhawa. "Two FIRs have been registered for rioting and arsoning. Crime Branch will investigate the matter from all angles," he added. Clash broke out between police and protestors demonstrating against Citizenship (Amendment) Act on December 15.

Emergency Parliament session should be called to revoke CAA: Ram Gopal Yadav

New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav has demanded to call an emergency Parliament session to revoke Citizenship Amendment Act or to make amends in it to ensure that discrimination is not done on the basis of religion. "I demand that an emergency session of the Parliament should be called, an amendment should be made to the Citizenship Amendment Act to see that no discrimination is done on the basis of religion or the Act should be revoked," Yadav told ANI. Protests across India, especially in the Northeast, broke out after Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed by both the Houses of Parliament and got President Ram Nath Kovind's assent. Protests at the Jamia Millia Islamia University turned violent after clashes broke out between police and students.
