Australia is tightening temporary migration rules, making it harder for most international students to bring partners or children on dependent visas. Exceptions will apply to students from certain Pacific and Southeast Asian countries and those enrolled in programmes such as PhDs, but India is not covered by the regional exemption. The government is also targeting repeated visa switching, overstays and some working holiday visas.
