Sikha, wife of TMC MP Somen Mitra, had criticised the party at a function at the state Congress office on July 1 where she had gone to attend a programme on the occasion of the birthday of former chief minister B C Ray.

Mitra had said she was not allowed to do work in her constituency and could not stay in the party doing sycophancy.

She also criticised yesterday's violence in the state assembly involving TMC and Left members. She said whichever party was responsible for the violence it was condemnable.

"The previous government was bad and that was why the people had voted our party to power. I am afraid of entering into the house," she remarked.

Party sources said that Mitra, an MLA from Chowringhee constituency, has been suspended since her criticism of the party in July although it was not made public earlier.

Referring to her suspension, a defiant Mitra said that she also has many things to say. "I cannot accept Talibani fatwa and I can't remain in the party as a servant".
