GM India plans to export proposed mini car
Press Trust of India / Kochi Jul 14, 2009, 15:57 IST

General Motors India today said its proposed mini car, to be launched by this year end, would be exported after meeting the domestic demand.

"Post 2011, there are plans to export the mini car after neeting the domestic demand," company Vice-President Ankush Arora told reporters here after launching the LPG version of the Chevrolet Spark in the Kerala market.

Though countries to where the mini car was likely to be exported had not yet been identified, about 15 per cent of the volume was expected to be exported, he said.

He also said the luxury sedan Chevrolet Cuize was likely to hit the market by coming September and a slew of other products were also slated for launch this year.

GM, which sold 32,000 Sparks in the country last year, was expecting a 20-25 per cent growth this year. During the first half of this year 28 per cent growth had been reported.

While the industry registered a negative growth (-2 per cent) last year, GM India has registered a growth of 9.6 per cent by selling 65,702 units in 2008 against 60,032 units in 2007.

There would also be a series of alternative fuel vehicles launches acros the existing Chevrolet carlines, incluing LPG and CNG options, he said.

GM India was rapidly expanding its dealerships and service centre network to support the market demand for its cars. It is present in 203 locations across 178 cities across the country with 195 sales points and 198 authroised service outlets.
