Kolkata Metro to get 60 next-generation trains in five years: Vaishnaw

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday announced that sixty next-generation trains would be introduced for the Kolkata Metro in the next five years and hoped the railway projects in West Bengal would get a fresh impetus under the double-engine government. During a meeting with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the state secretariat Nabanna, the railway minister said only 28 km of the Kolkata Metro network was completed in 42 years, while 45 km of metro lines have been added since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014. "In the next five years, 60 next-generation trains will be introduced for Kolkata Metro. Today, I took the Kolkata Metro. We will revamp the Kolkata Metro," he said. The minister also said that the proposed bullet train services between DelhiVaranasi and VaranasiSiliguri were aimed at sharply reducing travel time. "These high-speed corridors will connect Siliguri with New Delhi in six hours," he said.

Underground Metro services disrupted in Mumbai after technical snag

Services on Mumbai's Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, were disrupted due to a "technical snag" during morning peak hours on Friday, leaving commuters stranded amid confusion and overcrowding. This is the second major disruption on the 33.5-km-long corridor. On May 6, train services on the Aqua Line, which runs between Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai and Aarey JVLR in the northern suburbs, were hit due to a fire at T2 Airport station. Ceigall India's joint venture CIL-SAM bags ₹918 cr order from Jaipur Metro

Infrastructure company Ceigall India Ltd on Sunday said its joint venture CILSAM India has bagged a Rs 918.04-crore project from Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Ltd for design and construction works. The contract awarded to CIL-SAM involves the design and construction of an elevated viaduct and ten elevated metro stations (excluding architectural finishing) under Jaipur Metro's Phase-II expansion covering 10.8 km, Ceigall India said in a statement. Ceigall India holds a 74 per cent stake in CIL-SAM, while the remaining 26 per cent is owned by SAM India Builtwell Pvt Ltd. The total bid cost of the project stands at Rs 918.04 crore (inclusive of 18 per cent GST), with an execution timeline of 34 months, it stated. The ten stations to be constructed under the package are Prahladpura, Manpura, Bilwa Kalan, Bilwa, Goner Mod, Sitapura, JECC, Kumbha Marg, Haldighati Gate, and Pinjrapole Gaushala. Centre approves 11.56 km Noida Metro extension to Botanical Garden

The Centre has approved an 11.56 km extension corridor with eight elevated stations from Noida Sector 142 to Botanical Garden of Noida Metro Rail Project. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. According to the statement issued by the government on Saturday, after operationalisation of the corridor, Noida and Greater Noida cities will have an active Metro Rail Network of 61.62 km. Representing an advancement in the city's infrastructure, the extension corridor from Noida Sector 142 to Botanical Garden (Noida) acts as a major expansion of the Noida Metro Rail Network, it said. The corridor will introduce approximately 11.56 km of tracks and improve public transportation in the city, the statement said. The project will also provide direct connectivity with high-demand corridors, including the interchange at Botanical Garden, Blue Line and Magenta Line.

Titagarh Rail bags ₹2,481 crore order from MMRDA for Mumbai Metro Line 5

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) on Friday said it has secured a Rs 2,481-crore contract from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the design, manufacture, supply and commissioning of 132 metro coaches and associated systems for Mumbai Metro Line 5. The contract also includes signalling for 24.9-km of track, telecommunication systems across 16 stations, platform screen doors, depot machinery and five years of comprehensive maintenance, a statement said. The project covers both Phase 1 (Kapur Bawdi-Kasheli-Dhamankar Naka) and Phase 2 (Dhamankar Naka-Bhiwandi-Kalyan APMC) of the Line 5 corridor. This is Titagarh Rail Systems' second major order for Mumbai Metro, following its earlier mandate for Line 6, it said. Delhi Metro to begin ultrasonic testing of rails, welds to boost safety

Days after the Delhi Metro faced a series of technical snags that disrupted services and caused overcrowding on several routes, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will start ultrasonic testing of rail welds to strengthen safety checks across its network. A tender was issued on October 7, seeking agencies for "Ultrasonic Flaw Detection (USFD) testing of Alumino-Thermic (AT) welds and rails (using B-scan machines for rail testing)" on six lines, including the Airport Express Line. The contract, valued at around Rs 1.89 crore, will be executed over a period of three years. As per the tender, the project aims to detect hidden defects in rails and welds that could otherwise lead to operational issues or safety risks. "Ultrasonic flaw detection will be utilised in metro systems for rapid, non-destructive testing (NDT) of rail tracks to identify internal issues such as cracks and corrosion," the tender read. Kolkata Metro sees record 982K passengers in a day on September 27

The Metro Railway Kolkata registered its highest-ever daily passenger count of 9.82 lakh on September 27, an official said. The previous record of highest daily passenger count was recorded on October 9 last year at 9.61 lakh, he said. An estimated 9.82 lakh passengers travelled on different corridors (of the Metro Railway) on Panchami', September 27, the official said in a statement. A total of 7.43 lakh passengers travelled on the Blue Line' stretch, while the Green Line' carried 2.21 lakh commuters on September 27, it said. The statement said Metro Railway has made elaborate arrangements to operate night-long services on the Blue Line' and Green Line' during Durga Puja festivities on Saptami' (September 29), Astami' (September 30) and Navami' (October 1) this year.
