Anti-theft immobiliser system from Maruti soon

Ch Prashanth Reddy Chennai/ Hyderabad
Car market leader Maruti is all set to come out with a factory fitted anti-theft immobiliser system. The device, named iCATs (intelligent Computerised Anti-Theft system), is an advanced electronic system installed in the vehicle, which works on digitally encrypted codes and hence is tamper-proof.

Cars fitted with this advanced new device will roll out from Maruti factory next week, a company spokesperson told Business Standard adding that iCATs will come with a cost increase and the company is expected to pass on the increased cost to the customers.

As per police records, the spokesperson said, a majority of the stolen vehicles are Maruti brand as Maruti vehicles command a ready market and a much higher resale value in the second hand car market and thieves find it easier to dispose them of.

Concerned at the increasing number of car thefts and the low rate of recovery, Maruti has decided to take the lead in the industry.

Maruti will introduce the iCATs immobiliser as a standard factory fitment to ensure the safety of the customer's cars. Progressively, iCATs immobiliser will be available on the full range of Maruti cars.
