BS Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore

Bangalore has witnessed an uptrend in hiring activity during May 2011 over April 2011. According to the Naukri Job Speak index for Bangalore in May was at 1,051 as compared to 962 in April, thus indicating a 9 per cent uptick in hiring activity. This uptrend has been witnessed across almost all sectors. Thus the overall hiring sentiment continues to remain healthy and the gains have touched almost every sector of the economy.

The hottest skillsets for the month of May were professionals in banking and marketing as their index moved up by 18 per cent and 11 per cent respectively in May over April. The demand for professionals in IT- software, accounts and ITeS moved up 4 per cent respectively in May compared to a month ago. Although hiring of professionals in sales and business development and production dipped 4 per cent and 2 per cent during this period, the three month moving average indices suggest more stability.

Hitesh Oberoi, CEO and MD, Info Edge India, said, “The first half of 2011 has been very encouraging as the job scenario has been upbeat across sectors. However with the improving job market and healthy appraisals, the key challenge now is to retain proven employees.”

An in-depth analysis of the indices shows that the first four months of 2011 have clocked impressive growth figures for almost all key industry sectors. The services sector in particular displayed strong hiring trends in May with sectors like telecom, insurance and banking witnessing their job speak index move up 24 per cent, 21 per cent and 13 per cent in May over April. While IT- software, ITeS and pharma sectors maintained steady hiring levels, capital goods and construction sectors saw a 4 per cent dip in their hiring respectively in May compared to April.
