CSC upbeat on its Indian operations

Sees key role for its 'world sourcing strategy'

The $15-billion California-based Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) sees a key role for its Indian operations as part of its 'world sourcing strategy' for global infrastructure services. The Indian operations has seen an annual growth of over 75 per cent.

"The Indian operations are seamlessly aligned with the rest of CSC's operations in offering remote infrastructure management services and the performance is very satisfactory," Brian Manning, director of global infrastructure services (GIS) at CSC, said during his maiden visit to the CSC centre here on Wednesday.

He is responsible for developing and implementing a programme to ensure that CSC maintains and improves its competitive position by drawing on CSC's global capabilities.

The company has three key operations in India "� financial services group, global transformation services and GIS. It employs over 1,800 experienced professionals in its three centres in Hyderabad, Noida and Indore.

Interacting with media persons, Manning said that the Indian operations had attained the infrastructure integration and architecture capabilities. The Indian operations would continue to grow in line with the CSC strategy of offering increasingly cost-effective solutions.

Stating that CSC had witnessed 20 per cent growth last year, he hoped that the growth would be sustained during the current year too.

CSC had an edge over competitors in that its process-intensive end-to-end IT infrastructure management services with a global presence in three dozen countries was a favourite with the clients in all key verticals like financial services, healthcare, chemicals etc.

With the spending on IT continuing to grow, CSC has scaled up its operations to adapt to third generation network technologies and address inter-operability and internet protocol (IP) issues, he said.

"CSC is fully geared up to bring about integration of mobile computing devices, cellular networks, telecom and cellular networks as part of its remote infrastructure management services," he said.

On whether CSC was looking at the markets in developing countries, he said that at present the focus was on the developed nations and it would take sometime to shift the focus to the Asia-Pacific region.

MV Sarma, assistant vice-president in-charge of Hyderabad operations, said that the existing workforce of 200 would be increased to 1,000 by March-end next year. CSC plans to have an employee strength of 3,000 by March next.

He said the CSC's operations here had fully integrated with the global network of CSC and the centre was extending a wide range of services offered elsewhere.

As part of quality upgradation and standardisation of services, the centre had recently initiated BS:15000 certification process, he added.
