Madhya Pradesh-based Glychem Industries Ltd (MPGIL) is planning to set up a butter and ghee unit in the Malanpur (Ghirongi) industrial area in Bhind, near Gwalior. The company is learnt to have been allotted 12.35 acres of land in Malanpur.

Formed in 1976, the company does oil extraction through the solvent extraction process. It has its unit at Dobhi in Mandla.

"A letter of intent has been issued to the company in this regard," a government official in the department of industries said, adding that the company will invest Rs 60.51 crore in the plant.

MPGIL is already in business of refined vegetable oil, edible soya flour, de-oiled cake, milk processing.

The firm also has a composite milk processing unit for manufacturing ghee and skimmed milk powder, cheese for domestic market as well as for export with a processing capacity of 1,50,000 litres a day.

Officials in the Madhya Pradesh Audyogik Kendra, Gwalior said the project is expected to generate more than 300 direct jobs.

The letter of intention had been issued to MPGIL in March this year. At present, MPGIL markets ghee, processed cheese, dairy whitener, whole milk powder and skimmed milk powder under the brand name Saurabh. Its revenue was around Rs 5,206.16 lakh as on March 31, 2005.

Bhind has a thriving ghee manufacturing industry. "Since the Malanpur industrial area is under intense pressure of dacoit menace, very few industrial activities are taking place here," said a government source.

As many as 400 small-scale industries have been established through district industry centre in Bhind that has staff of around 2,500 people.

Despite various socio-economic issues, big firms like Cadbury, Godrej, Hotline and few others are setting their units in Malanpur.
