Hindalco net up 90% at Rs 597 cr

Helped by high metal prices, the country's top aluminium and copper producer, Hindalco Industries Ltd, on Wednesday reported a 90 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 597.6 crore for the quarter ended September 30 from Rs 313.8 crore for the same quarter last year.

The company's net sales and operating revenue for the quarter increased 74 per cent to Rs 4,634.2 crore from the last corresponding quarter's Rs 2,659.3 crore.

The half-yearly net profit for the year rose to Rs 1,199.1 crore from Rs 693 crore "� an increase of 73 per cent.

Total revenue for the six-month period to September 30, 2006, was Rs 8,907.9, up 83 per cent from Rs 4,866 crore in the H1last financial year.

The company's operating EBIDTA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) for the quarter increased to Rs 1,097.2 crore from the second quarter last year, which was Rs 580.6, an increase of 89 per cent.
