In a statement IIT said that it is joining hands with HSSL to enhance road safety. As an initiation of this process, IIT-M will transfer to HSSL, technological know-how on ubiquitous monitoring of driver performance and behavior.
"Both IIT-M and HSSL plan to leverage their extensive experience in product development and manufacturing to make commercially viable products in India that enhance road safety for all stakeholders." said IIT
Dr. Venkatesh Balasubramanian, Professor, Department of Engineering Design at IIT Madras commented that "ït is a unique opportunity that the concepts developed and tested in lab as a design tool could be transferred to a leading manufacturer in the automobile industry. We believe that we could assist HSSL launch intelligent safety systems incorporated products in the near future and thereby make a small contribution from IIT-M in the journey of safe roads in India."
A G Giridharan, president, Harita Seating Systems Ltd added that this technology transfer and collaboration agreement will help the company to develop products.
"We look forward to the challenges of taking a disruptive product concept to a viable market-ready product in the shortest possible time".
