Intel donates Rs 15 lakh

BS Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore
As part of its corporate social responsibility programme that includes efforts to enhance the quality of education, Intel on Wednesday donated Rs 15 lakh to 17 government schools and schools for special children across Karnataka.

Frank Jones, president, Intel India, presented the cheque to principals of the schools.

"We will now extend this programme to schools in Mumbai and Delhi too," said Jones. Community volunteer work has been a key part of the Intel work culture worldwide, he added.

The volunteer matching grant programme creates a two-fold impact on education: first through employee engagement with schools and secondly by funding schools to enable better infrastructure and learning aid.

"Our volunteer programme probably encourages some of the employees to stick on too with Intel," said Jones.

The programme is a community programme under which employees invest a part of their time in a number of ways at targeted educational institutions.
