Jewellery, designer labels, most visited products online

A report by IAMAI states jewellery products saw 109%rise in product visits

Jewellery, designer labels and mobile phones saw the highest traction for the month of March 2013 y-o-y, even as the number of online customers using e-commerce for booking restaurants and spa saw a further dip, says the latest report by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on e-tailing. that is, online retailing.

Capturing data of number of visits by potential customers on prominent e-tailing sites, IAMAI brought out the Internet Economy Watch Report for the month of March 2013. According to the report, jewellery products saw a whopping rise in product visits in March 2013 at 3.76 million as against 1.80 million in March 2012, showcasing an increase of 109 per cent.
 

Further, designer labels clocked 80 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) growth when compared with the numbers of corresponding month last year. Designer label segment saw 2.38 million visitors in March 2013 as compared to 1.32 million visitors in March 2012.

With smartphones, tablets and phablets witnessing growing attraction among online e-commerce visitors, the mobile phones category recorded 71 per cent y-o-y growth with 5.81 million visits in March 2013 as compared to 3.40 million visits in March 2012. The category also bettered its record for February 2013 when it saw 5.41 million visits.

"The footwear and branded apparels segment also registered a y-o-y growth of 39 per cent and 20 per cent respectively when compared with the number of online user hits from last year," the report stated.

Data also revealed a decline in online user visit to spa and restaurants segment with 0.45 million hits in March 2013 as compared to 0.58 million in March 2012, down by 22 per cent. On the other hand, visit for books which witnessed 1.57 million hits in March 2012 increased to 1.94 million in March 2013. The report, however, did not state the rate of conversion into actual purchases from such visits.

Apart from buying trends, the report also revealed data regarding resume and matrimonial uploads apart from railway, air and bus e-ticketing.

The monthly digital tracker showed that the number of resume uploads went up to 1.25 million in March 2013 from 0.73 million in March 2012 registering an increase of 71 per cent, whereas the number of profile uploads on matrimonial websites has witnessed a decrease of four per cent. Profile uploads on matrimonial sites was 0.66 million in March 2013 as compared to 0.69 million in the corresponding month last year.

Meanwhile, irctc.com registered 23 per cent y-o-y growth in the e-ticketing segment, air tickets booked online in March 2013 were 1.40 million as compared to 1.21 million in March 2012, a 16 per cent y-o-y growth.
