Kiran Mazumdar offers to setup biocon's R&D unit in Punjab

Biotechnology firm Biocon is keen on setting up a research and development centre in Punjab at an investment of nearly Rs 100 crore in the state.
Company Chairperson and Managing Director Kiran Mazumdar Shaw expressed the interest during a meeting with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here yesterday.
Such a centre would have a potential to employ about 200 scientists, she was quoted as saying in a statement.
Shaw also emphasized the need to chalk out a joint action programme to involve the state's industry with Universities to work together for overcoming all the practical hardships being faced by both the sectors in the field of bio-technology.
She also favoured clinical research in the medical units with the involvement of pharmaceutical industry.
Badal assured Shaw that state government would extend full support and cooperation to them for setting up of Biocon's R&D unit in Punjab.
