Ksa Technopak To Launch Retail Rating Soon

BUSINESS STANDARD

Consulting firm KSA Technopak, a joint venture between Kurt Salmon Associates and the erstwhile Technopak, will soon launch a rating service for the retail sector in India. The service would be officially launched at the KSA Retail Summit, to take place next week. The ratings would focus on the operational aspects rather than the financial one.

In the initial stage, the company is targeting the mid-sized retail enterprises. The retailers would need to enroll themselves for the programme and the company expects to have around 500 retail outfits to participate in the programme in the next five years. "We hope to establish this service in the country like other rating services such as ISI or TQM and therefore we would focus on the operational excellence of the retail outfits instead of their financial health," Rajan Chibba, managing director, KSA Technopak, told Business Standard.

He added that this kind of a service is particularly important for the domestic market since the sector is dominated by unorganised players and has just started picking up.

The rating would be based on various parameters such as strategy, business model, competency and operations, which would be determined by their current and past performance. KSA will monitor the ratail outfits on a quarterly basis and the information provided by them would be cross validated and examined to ensure transparency and authenticity, explained Chibba. "This will also enhance domain knowledge significantly, which is lacking today," he said.

"The ratings will also help the investors and suppliers since today there is no way to determine the performance of any of these players," he said.

Chibba also said that depending on the response of this new service here, it may be launched in the other countries as well.
