Malaysian kitchen brand sets up shop in Bangalore

BS Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore
Signature, the $27-million Malaysian kitchen furnishing firm, has set up shop in India with the opening of its first outlet in Bangalore.

The outlet, set up at a cost of Rs 1 crore, will be the first of a series of outlets of the firm in the country. Signature hopes to open outlets in the eight biggest cities of the country.

The company found Bangalore to be the most attractive entry point into India since it is the most happening place in terms of construction in the country, said Surajit Viswanath, managing director, Signature Kitchen Pvt Ltd. The company hopes to have most of its business from builders than from the retail market.

"Our highly flexible product offerings are for builders, contractors and interior consultants looking to equip their residential projects with contemporary kitchens for their more urbane customers," said Viswanath.

The kitchen range starts around Rs 1 lakh and could go up to Rs 20 lakh or more with customisation. With the electro-domestic appliances thrown in, it will cost another 20 per cent, said Viswanath.

The firm claims that its products have been customised for the Indian cooking, which has more moisture content. It hopes to see revenues of $3 million by the fourth year.
