Maruti aims at 40% sales growth in Orissa

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the market leader in the domestic passenger car segment is aiming at a sales volume of around 7,000 units across all its models in the Orissa market in 2008-09, a 40 per cent growth over nearly 5,000 units sold in the previous fiscal.
“We are looking at a year-on-year growth of 30-40 per cent in our sales in the Orissa market. Last month, Maruti Suzuki sold about 750 units in Orissa, recording a 41 per cent growth in sales over the same month last year”, said Rohit Kohli, area manager (Orissa) of Maruti Suzuki.
It may be noted that the company’s overall sales in the domestic market slid by about 8 per cent from 64,258 units in October 2007 to 59,127 units in October this year.
Kohli was talking to reporters at the launch of A-Star, the latest passenger car model from the Maruti Suzuki stable. He said that the company has a market share of 51 per cent in Orissa in the passenger car segment which was well comparable to the car maker’s pan India share of 54 per cent.
At present, Maruti Suzuki has six dealer showrooms and four sales extension counters in Orissa. Plans are afoot to set up two more showrooms and another two sales extension counters in the state by the end of next year.
"The company has targeted to sell over 50,000 units of A-Star across the country over the next twelve months. In the eastern region, Maruti Suzuki sold about 2,700 units of all its models last month", said Jatinder S Dhindsa, regional manager (east) of Maruti Suzuki.
