Lemon Tree hotels, Hilton have announced discounts for the Christmas-New Year period

Hotel companies are copying aviation companies. These are  announcing massive discounts through flash sales for December.

Delhi-based Lemon Tree Hotels is allowing guests to book its rooms at just Rs 2,015 a unit across its portfolio of 26 properties in 15 cities.

Under this offer, guests can stay in any Lemon Tree brands — Lemon Tree Premier (upscale); Lemon Tree Hotel (midscale); and Red Fox Hotel (economy); till January 4 for single occupancy.

Guests can avail double occupancy by additionally paying a token charge of Rs 499 only, the company stated. Lemon Tree Hotels however clarified that properties in leisure destinations such as Dehradun, Goa, Kerala, Aurangabad and Chandigarh have been excluded.

Hotels participating in the Hilton offer are located in New Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Trivandrum and Vadodara, Hilton said. To avail this offer guests are required to book at least three days before arrival and before January 20, 2015.

Budget brand Keys Hotels too have jumped onto the bandwagon with offers lined up for Christmas and New Year. The company is offering rooms at Rs 2,999 per night across 11 properties including Goa Mahabaleshwar, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru. The rates are inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner and 'gala dinner on December 30 and 31'.

Leisure travellers have been either cutting back on their spending or choosing to visit an overseas destination to spend the holidays as destinations like Thailand, Malaysia, Dubai have become very cost-effective.

Moreover an oversupply of rooms due to new hotels has put additional burden on existing properties. Hoteliers are thus eager to sell the unsold inventory even at discounts.
