Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL), the largest car maker in the country, is looking at introducing an Android-based application at all its workshops and service centres with an aim of improving the vehicle servicing process.
The application which works on android-based tablets is linked to the company’s dealer management system hosted on a private cloud server. Using the tablets, the service advisors at its workshops will note down the feedback and generate the job order.
To begin with, MSIL has implemented the tablet facility across 250 of its workshops on a pilot basis. The company expects to complete the roll out of the applications across all its service stations in the next financial year.

Using the tablets, the servicing centre executives can also click the picture of a car to record scratches or dents, if any. All the data entered in the tab then move to the company’s private cloud thus storing the vehicle history. The data can be accessed from any of its service centres across the country.
“With the use of the android-based application through handheld devices, we are expecting to cut down the service initiation time drastically as compared to the manual process. This will also help us in improving the service quality and reducing the waiting time of the customers significantly,” said Rajesh Uppal, Executive Director, IT and CIO of MSIL.

MSIL that has been at the forefront of technology adoption in the country is one of the early adopters of cloud technology. In 2006, the company integrated its dealer sales outlets and workshops through a Dealer Management System. It is hosted on a private cloud and gives real-time display of bookings, enquiries, retail sales and customer behavior.
The company has also implemented a vehicle tracking system at shop floor to track movement of the vehicle from weld shop to final check. The warehouse management system it has implemented manages the complexities surrounding the movement of spare parts and the inventory management.
“Our technology roadmap is primarily driven by the business requirements. As we scale up our business, we are looking at increasing our focus on emerging areas like predictive analysis and business intelligence among others,” added Uppal.
