STAR India is strengthening its offerring in the Bengali space with launch of a dedicated Bengali movie channel Jalsha Movies, on December 16. The company already runs the top regional entertainment channel STAR Jalsha in the market.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) had also launched a Bengali movie channel in September, signaling growth opportunities in the movie space.

STAR claims that Jalsha Movies will treat viewers with the biggest library of Bengali super-hit films. The channel has also signed Bengali actor Dev as the brand ambassador for the channel.

The launch is in line with STAR Jalsha’s philosophy of Chalo Paltai (Let’s Change) that aims at delighting viewers through contemporary stories from their surroundings.

Kevin Vaz, President and General Manager - Star Jalsha and President – Ad Sales at Star India said, “We are happy to launch Jalsha Movies with a promise of bringing the best of Bengali blockbusters to our audience. Jalsha Movies is an extension of our commitment to constantly delight viewers by offering the best in entertainment. We are redefining the pleasure of watching movies by bringing the biggest movie hall in Bengal to every Bengali home.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment also runs Bengali movie channel Sony Aath, after it acquired the channel from its promoters in 2008.
