Our Regional Bureau Chennai
Tally (India) Pvt Ltd and Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) have entered into an agreement, under which Tally would provide its expertise and contents to TNOU's latest course, Certificate Programme in Accounting Software (CAPS).

Addressing a press conference, M G Gopi, sales head (south asia), education and training business, Tally (India), said the tie-up was aimed at boosting the employability levels of students in the state.

This tie-up would benefit those students who want a career in accounting. This would also address the industry requirement for trained candidates. Initiatives like these would ensure that formal education is supplemented by industry required vocational skills, he added.

The six-month vocational programme, CPAS, will focus on providing training in Tally accounting software, accounting and finance subjects and soft skills. The fee for the course will be Rs 6,300.

This programme is expected to be rolled out across the state shortly. TNOU expects about 5,000 students to enroll for this programme across the state for the first batch. At the end of the course, TNOU will conduct examination at the training centre and offer certificates to successful students.

Gopi said that there was a huge demand for Tally professionals from businesses of all sizes. Tally accounting software has strong presence in the small and medium enterprises segment. "We have trained about 1,50,000 people so far in Tally software through Tally Academy network, the authorised partners of Tally India. There are about 900 Tally Academy centres across the country," he added.

While Tally has already forged partnerships with a few universities and colleges across the country, this is the first time it is partnering with an open university.

M S Palanichamy, vice-chancellor, TNOU, said vocational programmes like CPAS would benefit its students as there was an increase in job opportunities in accounts and finance domain.
