TCS to set up centre at Infocity

IT major's entry expected to give a boost to the sector in state

Tata Consutancy Services Ltd (TCS), the leading global information technology (IT) services provider, on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state overnment to set up a development centre at Infocity in Gandhinagar.
 
The full fledged development centre of TCS, having state-of-the-art infrastrucuture facilities, is expected to be operational by the end of the next financial year.
 
TCS is also planning to expand its operations in Gujarat by enhancing infrastructure facilities in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
 
"The support and co-operation extended by the Gujarat government to this endeavour has provided an environment friendly climate and will boost investment in the IT industry in the state," said S Ramadorai, managing director, TCS.
 
The entry of TCS into Gujarat is expected to boost the development of IT sector in state. With the opening of development centre of TCS, other small and medium IT players would also be benefited and this will bring quantum rise in the growth of IT industry in the state.
 
Even, a Nasscom survey of Indian cities has already ranked Ahmedabad among the top five ITES destinations in the country.
 
Earlier, N S Narayana Murthy, chairman and chief mentor, Infosys Technologies, had expressed his willingness to set up a development centre in the state.
 
"We are actively looking at setting up a development centre in Gujarat and other places as well, as and when the need arise, Gujarat will get the first preference.
 
"We are just waiting for the right time and the financials of the project will be worked out later." Narayanamurthy had said.
 
"Ahmedabad is a vibrant and peaceful city and Gujarat has great potential for setting up of new development centre, people of the state are friendly and enterprising."
 
"TCS, an anchor investor in the state of Gujarat, will boost the development of IT industry in the state," said chief minister Narendra Modi.
 
"We are giving open invitation to the captains of information technology industry in the state of Gujarat, the land of returns and conducive and business friendly environment of the state ensures maximum return on investments. Gujarat has unlimited potential and unique high returns, low risk propositions," he added.
