232,448 non-regular workers losing jobs between Oct-Sept

A total of 232,448 non-regular workers have lost or are expected to lose their jobs between last October and this September, a labour ministry survey showed today.
That represented a 1.4 percent increase from the number of non-regular workers losing their jobs during the period under the previous July survey, said the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare survey conducted Aug 18.
In the July survey, the number of job-losing non-regular workers during the same one-year period was 2.7 percent higher than in the June survey, the ministry said.
The latest survey showed workers dispatched from manpower agencies accounted for the largest 140,086, or about 60 percent, of the 232,448 workers, followed by 52,353 for contract workers and 18,045 for other non-regular workers.
Of the 232,448 workers, those losing their jobs in September total about 1,200, down from about 3,300 in July and about 1,700 in August, the ministry said.
By prefecture, the largest 39,244 non-regular workers have lost or are expected to lose their jobs in Aichi Prefecture during the October-September period.
Aichi, a prefecture where Toyota Motor Corp and affiliated part suppliers are based, is followed by Nagano with 10,157 and Shizuoka with 9,491.
