The Odisha government is considering an alternative location for allotment of 25-30 acres of land for Mindspace IT park proposed by Mumbai-based K Raheja Corporation.
"In September 2012, K Raheja Corporation had informed the state government that the land parcel allotted to them is not suitable for commercial operations and had requested 25-30 acres of land at an alternative location. The company's request is under consideration," Raghunath Mohanty, minister for information technology (IT) informed the state assembly in a written reply. Raheja Corporation had signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding) with the state government on May 27, 2008 for setting up an IT park. The state government, through its nodal agency for land acquisition - Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco), had decided to lease out 30 acres of land to the IT developer at the Mancheswar industrial estate on the city's outskirts.
However, due to problems in acquisition of land, Idco was unable to hand over land to K Raheja Corporation in time. "Since the MoU with the IT firm was valid for one year, the company was requested to renew the pact and inform the government on its future plans in August 2012," the minister stated in a written reply.
