AP cancels land allotted to Brahmani

As it failed to fulfil its commitment to set up an integrated steel plant

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday approved the proposal to cancel the allotment of 10,760.66 acres of government land to Brahmani Industries Limited (BIL) as it failed to fulfil its commitment to set up an integrated steel plant.

According to the MoU entered into with the industries and commerce department, BIL had to set up an integrated steel plant of 2 mtpa capacity initially, which should be scaled up to 10 mtpa by 2017. It promised direct employment to 10,000 people and indirect employment to 100,000.  The government allotted land in Vemaguntapalli, Kothagun-tapalli, P Bommepalli and Thugutlapalli villages of Jammalamadugu mandal of Kadapa district on payment of market value.
