Bengal seeks AMCHAM Kolkata's assistance in industrialisation drive

The West Bengal government has sought AMCHAM Kolkata’s assistance in its industrialisation drive, in view of a paper published by the association encapsulating a panel discussion on American investor interest and positioning of the state, held earlier this year.
The first copy of the paper was presented to the state commerce and industry minister, Nirupam Sen, who was taken through the contents which include some areas of concern and recommendations on how to overcome the present weaknesses and build on the strengths.
In a statement, AMCHAM said that the minister spoke of the state’s priorities and identified specific areas for which the association’s assistance was welcome.
The areas include manufacture of equipment at the high technology end and semiconductors, large scale rain water harvesting technology for the arid and semi-arid districts, promoting the Durgapur-Asansol belt as an industrial hub in view of the region’s improved connectivity and identification of industry verticals ideal for development at Panagarh and Kharagpur.
AMCHAM has promised to revert to Sen with some ideas on how it could support the endeavours of the state government. The paper prepared by AMCHAM would be distributed to other ministers of the state and officials.
