China Orders Dumping Probe Into Indian Chloroform

Our Economy Bureau BUSINESS STANDARD

China has initiated anti-dumping investigations into chloroform imported from India. This is the second instance of such a probe by China into an Indian product.

The Chinese anti-dumping authority had reported the matter to the Indian High Commission in Beijing, senior government officials told Business Standard.

The probe followed complaints filed by the Chinese chloroform producers, they added, though they did not have the names of on the Indian companies that were accused of dumping the product in China.

China had initiated anti-dumping proceedings against pthalic anhydride imported from India in March 2002.

Chinese products have the dubious distinction of facing the maximum number of anti-dumping duties imposed by India. Of the 153 cases initiated by India till March 2003, 66 related to Chinese products. Indian industry fears that China will now target Indian products to impose anti-dumping duties.
