Gauchar land not alloted to Rakshashakti Uni, says govt

BS Reporter Mumbai/ Ahmedabad

The Gandhinagar Collector's office on Thursday said in a statement that land allotted to Rakshashakti University was purely government land and not grazing (gauchar) land.

In the context of recent controversies surrounding the land allotment to the said University, the statement issued from the Collector's office sought to clarify that the land in Lavad village of Dehgam taluka is purely government land and not grazing land or 'gauchar'. It said that the 304 acre land was transferred to the Home Department of the state government with prior permission of the revenue department under the Land Revenue Rules 1972 in March 2011. "The land transferred to Home Department for the purpose of Rakshashakti University is purely Govt. Land since 1976", the statement said.

Vinubhai Amin, a Gandhian social activist, had raised the issue of grazing land being allotted to the University.

He had even invited team Anna Hazare's core committee member Arvind Kejriwal to join him in his fight to save the piece of land.
